Nice Site. Im 53 retired few years ago. Hobby home shop machining have a Machine Shop beside House. I found a Article many years ago on Modifying a Winchester 30-30 Lever Rifle to make it a Take Down Rifle for Knapsack Packing. It is nice to have a small Firearm if youre in the old Super Cub flying in to the Northrern Canadian Bush hunting the Big Moose. I wondered if anyone had the article on the machine Build process on this two piart 30-30 lever modifications? I had these from a magazine many years ago and I cannot find them. Sort of annoyed me as I wanted to build a takedown 30-30. Thanx Mike

The article you're talking about was posted here a couple of years back I think. I remember reading it. Someone scanned it in from an original. I believe in the article they just machined a takedown ring as are used on regular Winchester takedowns.

I'll see if I can locate it. And welcome to the forum.

Here's the thread where the article was posted. I was posted by Pete44ru but the scanned images have been deleted apparently. If he see's this he may repost them. Otherwise I will try to run them down somewhere.

BTW, the author, Pete Dickey, recently passed away. He was Technical Editor for NRA publications for many years.

Welcome to the Forum, Mike! Great to have you here.

However, already you've committed THE ONE cardinal sin...NO PICTURES! How about some photos of that Super Cub of yours and hunting those big Canadian moose???

Here's my Super Cub 20 years ago in Alaska...fully bush modified and rode on 30" tundra tires spring/summer/fall and skis in the winter.

Image

The best and purest bush flying there is in a Super Cub!!! The moose hunting in Alaska was pretty good. I've seen some really big moose come out of the Canadian Yukon though. I always meat hunted, but my biggest from down on the Alaska Peninsula was 71 1/2 inches. Flew the rack home tied on the lift struts of the Cub stretching attach fitting to attach fitting. That elicited a few comments from the control tower guys when I landed in Anchorage!

Again, welcome to the Forum!

Well, my name is Doug Walker, aka thumper47...glad to hear you are doing great work in Peru.

Me, I am in a little town in E. TX and preach a good word or two. Hence the dual nature of the word thumper,

I love my Marlin 336 .35 Rem. as much as one can love a piece of steel and walnut. LOL Next is my 1966 Win 94 .30-30.

Just found the site last night and have been waiting to get on and chat with some great people. Let me figure out how to post pictures and I'll show you my two lever-action rifles.
