Thought you guys would enjoy seeing my first attempt at making a pair of holsters.
The pattern is one I modified from a Will Ghormely Jesse James pattern to make the opening less exaggerated and easier for a beginner like me to cut out.
Some would say I am bold for buying a makers stamp before ever making a project of leather. Not me ,when I decide to do something I dive in head first.
Next step is to wet mold them to my Vaquaros and after they dry the stain and finish can go on.
I have found another fun hobby to go with my levergun/shooting habit.
mod71alaska, If you dunk the holster in warm water for a couple minutes and wrap the pistol in Saran wrap or in a large Zip Lock bag . Then jam the pistol into the holster and hand mold the holster around the gun, it will dry stiff and be a snug as a bug fit. The stain/finish can then finish and put a water protecting finish on the holster.
Some use EVOO ( extra virgin Olive oil)and set it in the sun for a sun tan. Here are a couple that were done to Wills pattern by one of the guys over at the CAS city forum.
