86 winchester

Did a transfer for a friend today, 86 winchester takedown 45-70 one of Turnbull's reworked guns, tang saftey removed, case colored, reblued. Fantastic work!Image

It's a shame that USRAC cannot/willnot sell the 86 the way it was designed.lucky for those who can afford it that Turnbull is still doing these. they are first class.

Lordy, lordy! I might have to sell 2/3 of my collection to afford one like that -- and I am not at all sure I shouldn't do it. Turnbull is a master, and the '86 a perfect format for his work.

That is a beautiful rifle. They don't get much nicer than that. Turnbull also did a very limited run of Teddy Roosevelt's 1876. That gun was so gorgeous it almost made me want to weep.

While I admire Turnbulls' attention to detail, I've seen some 98% original Winchester '86's, and they never had the brilliant colors that Turnbull guns show. I guess you could say that Turnbull does it the way it "should" have been done? I admit, that is one beautiful rifle...what was the price tag for that work?

Turnbull's colors are more vibrant than Winchester's ever were. Modern steels and more control in the bone charcoal method of coloring, I suppose.
