OT: gun shops near VA in Temple Texas ?

Post by Bis »

Since I am now going to the VA hospital every couple of weeks, I was wondering if there were any gun shops near by. The reason I say near by, I seem to get lost everytime I try to drive around Temple. The last time I tried to find the Sams Club, got directions from 4 different people that took me all over town for about an hour only to find Sams Club was about 4 miles from the VA. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

MapQuest or the 'yellow pages' on-line may answer your question with a bit of searching, and will likely link to a 'map' showing how to get there.

If you're like me (and I think most males), you'll almost instantly photo-memorize a map and be able to drive there without looking again at it much if at all, vs. the hassle of parsing through layers of 'verbal' directions (which I do believe most women indicate they prefer vs. a map).

The gender comments are just my observations, but I've always found the tendencies interesting.

The wife and I drove down to Temple earlier this year to visit the lad (Army aviation at Ft. Hood), and while I had one $#@! of a time trying to figure out how to get around Temple, the lad lives just a few blocks from Weber's Sporting Goods (2701 Ira Young Drive).

If you are at the VA, go West on W Avenue R until you hit S 57th, then turn right (North) on S 57th and go the short distance until you hit Ira Young Drive, where you take a left (West) and you'll see Weber's.

Deafrm

Thanks for the info. I will do a yahoo map search and get a map.
Temple has some interesting streets. The VA is on 3rd street but if you drive about a mile the name of the street is 3rd, or people tell you to go south on a street and all of a sudden you are driving east.

I've shopped at Weber's since Pete was still alive.

Now he's on the shelf (i was up there for the same reason and stopped by).

They are priced a little higher than say Praco up in Waco, but the selection is solid and they generally know their stuff. Webers has expanded considerably (now with a shooting range and second store) since i lived in the area.

Pete was a grumpy old bastard, but he knew his stuff. I bought a Marlin 60, a Keltec P32 and a few others from him.

They sure do. We were introduced to Temple late in the day after two days of driving, and I thought I was going to spend another 24 hours just trying to figure out how to get to our motel.

I think they designed the VA hospital after the streets in Temple. If I have to get off the blue line there, I am lost :)
