OT-My job is safe for now, but my 4 legged friend isn't.

Post by shooter »

Well, it looks like I'm safe at my job for now, but I'm gonna have to take my best pal of almost 14 years tomorrow to be put down. I know several of you have gone through this recently. It's something that's got to be done, but I'm sure not looking forward to it. He's a Black Lab, and he's had a real good life, gonna be tough to say goodbye.

Update: Bear didn't make it through the night. I slept in the spare room with him, and stayed awake most of the night. His breathing became labored, and he died around 5:45 a.m., about an hour ago. Thanks for all the kind words. I know most of you have been in the same boat.

One of the hardest things we have to do - but often the most humane, especially to an animal who has been such a loyal member of the family...

I choked up a bit as I thought about your task tomorrow and my 3 year old lab asleep under my desk. I know how hard it is to put down a loyal companion. Many of us here do. Putting your dog down is your final act of love.

Get a new puppy soon. It will help you heal.

We're all with you.

Sorry to here about your Lab, Mine is getting old and having a hard time getting around. She lives for the cold weather and duck hunting, but this Texas heat is hard on her. She still gets excited when she see's be coming through the house with a long gun, but she doesn't beat me to the door anymore  .

Your buddy was glad you were there too. One of the hardest things I've ever done was to stay with Duke when the time came, but I owed him that.

So very sorry for your loss. It's been a bad year for our four legged buddies.

Very sorry for your loss.

Seems we have had this happen too much lately. 2 wks ago for me.

Glad you were there with him. I have always made it a point of being there when the time comes. I never want their last breath to be at some strange place surrounded by strangers. I been luckiy in their final moment being here at home, surrounded by their family. Thats the least I can do for an old friend.

I'm so sorry. Been there many times. It's never, ever easy. There's nothing like the companionship of a good, loyal dog--and most of 'em are very good. Thoughts are with you.

So sorry for your loss. We mere humans strive our whole lives to be as loving, faithful, and forgiving as a dog. You were there for him. He could not have written a better end for himself. He died comforting you.

Your ol' buddy died with his best friend right there, and he was where he wanted to be. That was indeed a comfort to him.

I'm very sorry about your loss, and glad that you have an income to make all of this more endurable.

Blessings.

Thanks each and every one of you for your kind thoughts and prayers. They really did mean a lot to me when I read through them all yesterday and today. Yesterday was tough, today was easier. Thank you all again.
