OT "NCIS"- What the...

Post by Otto »

I have never watched this show before, but there is nothing else on the hotel tv.

A guy was shot with two 9mm bullets, one of which lodged just below the skin, while the other penetrated deeply, striking bone, et cetera. Only one casing was found. At first two shooters were presumed. The investigators eventually figured out that the first bullet had been stuck in the barrel, and the firing of the cartridge drove both bullets out the barrel, into the victim: one at low velocity, one at normal velocity. Eventually, they also discovered that the barrel ruptured, injuring the shooter's hand, which is how they caught him.

Television is so educational.

So was it the first bullet that was faster, or did the second one fired pass the first on the way to the victim?

That's the wife and son's favorite TV show. we have season 1-7 on dvd. A few times I have caught them in technical blunders but most of the time they are spot on.

Pauley Perrette that plays Abbie really does have a degree in forensics, masters I think.

David Mac Callum who plays Duckie actually lectures at M.E. seminars.

I got that from watching the extra portions on the dvd's.

They did say, but I wasn't really paying attention at first. It was one of those deals where you hear something in the background, and a minute later you go "wait... what?"

My wife likes that show. It's ok, I guess, but I don't really like Mark Harmon, the lead actor on the show. The first thing I ever saw him in was "Crossfire Trail" with Tom Selleck. Didn't care much for his acting in that movie or anything I've seen him in since. The show is too scripted for my taste. I like the original CSI much better.

It's actually the only role I've ever seen Mark Harmon in that fits his meager talent in my view. He's actually GOOD in this thing as a result. I preferred the original CSI Vegas but all in all it's not a bad show as far as these things go and just like the OP I'm usually in a hotel room when I catch an episode. Works plenty as long as there's nothing good on The History Channel. :)

Best,
Oly

That is David McCallum? I haven't seen him since he played the "Invisible Man" series. Didn't he have a "Napoleon" complex at one time? If he played the other guy, I'll just quit "Kuryakin".

Yes, I remember that episode. Seems some of the perps's ammo was contaminated by some kind of oil and when he fired the first round, a squib, the bullet lodged in the bbl. (but what happened to that case?). Next round is fired (when did this happen? Immediately after the squib? If so, where's the case from #1?) and compresses the air in the bbl. to a point that it shoots bullet #1 out of the bbl at a higher velocity than normal 9mm, thus expending energy of bullet #2 and it, #2, leaves the bbl at a lower velocity. Simple. Physics are easy to bend/contort in Hollyweird.

Like a lot of actors, Mark Harmon does not so much act as manifest a skill set- his seems to work reasonably well in this role.

Scripting is quite good- this and some attractive eye candy makes for a winner.

When I was in the Corp, I never met anyone from NCIS (NIS at the time) that wasn't a full-fledged boob.
