Sunday afternoon with the Marlin 39a and Super Colibris

Post by meanc »

Got in from church itching to go out to the woods, but the father-in-law wanted to drop by so I couldn't get out.

So I set up a target in my back yard and grabbed up some Super Colibris and the 39a.

This is my target from 20yds.

The first 4 shots were a little right, but after adjusting the sights, the next 30 shots were pretty much where I wanted it.

So, I got it out of my system. I think tomorrow afternoon I'm going to the woods.

Just make sure you bring that new Marlin CB 45colt with ya'.

That way we can compare the 20" barrel with the 24" barrel CB I just picked up. :D

You bring back good memories when we lived in the Sierra's......shooting off the back porch, on one's own property. You're a lucky man.

I'll be more than happy to. What part of the world are you in? I might need to get an early start to get there on time.

I'm down here in Tampa Florida. I'm sure you'd like to get out of that cold up there.

My wife had a business meeting in Chicago on Wed. and Thurs. and she told me it was 7 below and snowing.

To think we were a signature away from moving there 2 or 3 years ago.

Yes indeed I'd love to get out of here.

Lots of water near Tampa, any good places to just get lost in the boonies? When I do get out of IL my second priority after getting settled in, is to go camping somewhere way far away from the madding crowds. Somewhere I can shoot all day and all night until I can't pull the trigger any more.

Any places like that in your neighborhood?

It got really cold around here last week too. Didn't snow much but the wind blew through the house even with the storm windows closed. Ugh...... brrrrrrrrrrrrr

J,

A couple of years ago, before it got over populated and the developers started buying up all the, I had about 2000 acres a couple miles down the road from me. I would go camping, shooting, fishing, hiking all i wanted.

Now If I want to get lost in the woods, I have to go camping up in the Ocala Nat'l forest.

It's about 100mi north of me. But, they've got camping, a range out there for shooting, fishing nearby, but there ain't too many places available I know of where it's just a free for all.

I go visit the family in Alabama and they definitely have places like that.

We're a hop skip and jump away from moving there. Maybe next summer. :D

Joe,
Come out to my place in N.M. Had a guy from New York City there once,
he did not realize it got so dark at night.
He had NEVER seen dark without residual light from the city

I was thinking about buying some, but I noticed this on their website.

"WARNING: These primer only loaded rounds must be fired only in handguns. When fired in long barreled firearms such as rifles, bullets may remain lodged inside the longer barrel. A subsequent firing of a regular .22 rimfire cartridge may result in injury or death to the user or other."

Are they ok to use in rifles?

I bet I've run close to 3000 of these thru all 3 of my 22lr levers w/ 20" barrels, a 23" Winchester 62a, and a 20" Winchester 190.

Never had one bullet not exit the barrel.

mescalero,

West is the direction I'm headed. Lived in Phoenix for near 40 years, then came hear {insert puke icon} . It's been so long since I've been outside in full darkness I've forgotten what it's like.

Where in NM is your place? I've lived in Hobbs, and Farmington. Liked Farmington, don't remember much about Hobbs.
