I like it. It's symbols from an Alaskan tribe. They decorated their canoe paddles, houses, and furniture the same way. I can see how it would fit perfectly in some households.
'Course, in the good old days [like, before guns] wearing those 'colors' would get you killed by anyone from any other tribe just as quick as inner city gangs kill today.

Looks better than 95% of the carving I have seen on several "customized" models.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I think it's awesome.
That's an original piece of art, and I'd love to know the story it tells.
Personally, I don't feel that any gun, or any other tool, should be "queened". They should be used, and personalized if desired. The "Mine's more factory perfect than yours" approach doesn't appeal to me at all.

I think it is neat, actually. I wouldn't pay that price for it, but I admire the craftsmanship that went into it and would like to know what it means to the man who carved it.

Are you sure Grizz? That looks like South American stuff to me...aka Mayan, Aztec or some such other? I need to go back again but I thought that is what it was.Grizz wrote:I like it. It's symbols from an Alaskan tribe.

I think it's great. I'd love to have it. People have always decorated their weapons and tools. Why do you think old flintlocks had tons of brass and silver and other geegaws on them?
Poor guys would paint their guns for decoration. Eric Kettenberg used to have a great flintlock on his website that had really beautiful German/American folk art figures painted on it. It was a copy of an actual colonial era small bore flinter.
I'm sure this fellow had a lot of lonely Alaskan nights to work on this thing. It's awesome to me.

The Tlingits are an Alaskan tribe. Many of the Pacific NW and Alaskan tribes share similar-looking motifs with the South American tribes, but these are distinctively Pacific.

It's not for me but I can appreciate the work that went into it. I'd like to hear the story behind it. I can see where it could be worth a considerable amount of money one day and this one should be looked at from an investment perspective not for the firearm itself but for the Native American artwork which is obviously Alaskan/Northwestern in nature. Really amazing work. I Googled the Tlinget tribe and came up with some interesting information. The more I think about it the more tempting it becomes.
If you can see the big picture, you are not focusing on your front sight.
Actually, I'm kind of relieved....
After reading "Marlin carved up" I thought that Remington went ahead and
broke the Marlin company up into a few smaller companies, y'know, like one company specializing in leveractions, another specializing in .22's, and yet another company specializing in bolt actions...
Glad it was just a guy who went crazy on a single rifle...

Capitalism is notable for the unequal distribution of wealth.
Socialism is notable for the equal distribution of poverty.

I thought the exact same thing when I first read the subject line. My heart sank at first...

Yes, the ad says "Carved by Jim Hale -Tlinget Tribe". I lived around that culture for a long time.C. Cash wrote:Are you sure Grizz? Kinda like decorating your car with pink and yellow poka-dots making people take notice, guess for some it ain't bad.....but not in the circles I'm accustom to. Demure and and good taste fit into my aspirations, not loud and obnoxious. Then again...to each there own. Heck of a way to cover up a ding though.
With a new stock set it would be nice. The old one could be split for kindling.
