Here's a challenge.

Post by stanforth »

I have a rifle that is almost unheard of here in the UK. It is a Evans New Model Carbine.
It is in great condition and shoots really well.
Here is my problem. To make it 100% I need an ejection port dust cover.
Do any of you know of any supplier over there who could help?

I did a search and came up empty.

If we dont' find this for you, I would suggest having one manufactured for you. Of course, you will have to find the specifications for the part. Steve's gunz here (Nate Kiowa Jones) could probably do the work for you.

I did find several examples at auction, but they are complete firearms - not parts...

Do you mean the Evans Repeating Rifle Company? --

If so, that was a short-lived operation.

Parts are 'gonna' be hard to find -- to say the elast --and as an earlier posted will probably need to be hand-made.
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

Is this the ejection port cover you speak of?
If it is, it sure would be hard to duplicate without an original to copy.

I don't actually need an original to copy
I made a template of one first in cardboard and then, to get the bends right I made one in 1mm Alluminium. I need one in the correct thicknedd in steel.

By the way it was a real challenge making ammunition until I found that all that was needed is a 44 Magnum loaded with black powder and with a 240gn. round nose bullet seated to the first lube groove ( canelure). I inch group at 30 yards.

I got news for you Stan, Evans Rifles are not widely known here in the States.

I've always considered myself to be a pretty well informed, widely read and knowledgeable gun crank. But truth is, I'd never heard of n Evans Rifle until aabout 15 years ago. And I've only seen one since then with no chance to handle or examine it.

Good luck finding someone to make your part.

JT: "Why d' you shoot that ol' Evans, Joe?"

Joe Gill: "'Cause it's got 28 bullets, and I ain't a very good shot!"

The Evans, IIRC carried either 26 or 34 cartridges, depending upon model and cartridge. Still a lot of firepower, if you could keep it running.

If what you need is a part like the one Salvo posted... I'd suggest a god blacksmith. One that's above average in his flatware makin'. Sure couldn't hurt to try.

Well if you are ever in the UK let me know and maybe we could arrange for you to shoot one.

The first time I shot mine was in a 'Gallery Rifle' comtetition and I won it against modern replica Winchesters and a Marlin. I thought that I was 'The man' until I lent it to the guys who came second and third. They both made my target look poor. This time it was the rifle not the guy shooting it.
