I haven't watched the video, but the sound of a pump shotgun being racked is the best attention getter I know of short of a gunshot.

Interesting. My first thought when seeing the thread title was "hmm, clays is about all I can think of that a shotgun is really good for,..."
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

That is an old punt gun. Old time market hunters used to lay down in the bottom of a flat bottom boat called a punt with one of those things and scull up to a flock of sitting ducks and let go. Market hunting has been illegal for a very long time.

My great grandpaw was a market hunter on the Breaks of the Missouri River. He had a punt gun tied down in a wooden square end boat. A punt boat I guess and my dad as a kid would drift down the river with him and cut loose on ducks....dad said they would put a half pound of blackpowder, a burlap wad and tacks, used horse shoe nails, rocks and lead shot. He said it made a heck of a noise. Daddy said there would be ducks floating everywhere....course great grandpaw Davis was about 2/3 outlaw....

Long history of those shotguns. Here on the Chesapeake, the markets from Baltimore to New England were filled with the bounty from the market gunners using those in the gunk holes against rafted up flocks of ducks and geese. You didn't aim the shotgun, you aimed the punt, paddling with your hands to get into optimum position. Once they were made illegal, they were used form many years later. The nights would be shattered with a single blast, and then the shotgun would be hidden in the woods, often burried in a wooden box, to keep the game wardens from finding them. Like stills, the shotguns were often destroyed on the spot when found. Amazing how many survived to this day.
