Gun Buy questions... need answers before tomorrow (Sun)...

Post by Old Ironsights »

RE: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26964&p=334424#p334424

I'm looking at a bubba'd '95 and/or a (not so bubba'd) '88 up at auction locally.

Assuming I can get either for a decent price point...

(A) What's a decent price point?

(B) Since the "collector value" of the Bubba'd 95 is shot, how hard would it be to make it into a 7.62x54R "Czarbine"

Saw a butchered 95 online go for around 500, lot worse than that one. Don't know about switching it over.

This might be more BTT than anything but what chambering is the 1895 NOW? I bet the guy is asking $700+ (would around here) but to me it is only worth about $300.

The 88 a .308? I'm guessing he'll be asking somewhere between $600 and $800, I would think $600 is probably right. Of course we don't often see 88s offered.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I'm not sure how the auction is structured. I'll find out during the preview tomorrow.

The 88 is a .308. I've seen Classifieds on Guns America with a low of $645 and a high of $$$$$

The 95 is a .30-06. Current Classifieds running $995+ for un-bubba'd guns

A Lot.

How about $4K? :o

A lot of them are running $1K-2K

Here's the Lowest price: $525

Basically, I'm shooting for anything under the price of a new 7600 ($480). So far my attempts at picking up a 760 (or 99C) for less than that have succumbed to Online Auction Failure...

I passed on one last year that was still NIB, chambered for .284. The gun was being sold by a granddaughter of a gent that had passed away and she is an ardent anti-gun person. Her husband told her to sell it for $700, I offered $500....was I stupid for not just giving her the $700. IT WAS STILL IN THE ORIGINAL BOX! My buddy, peeled off $700 immediately and stuffed it in her hand (she brought it into his auto repair shop and had just mentioned she had this gun in her trunk from her grandfathers estate!). Man, was I stupid. My buddy sold it last weekend at a gun show for $4200.00 TO A DEALER!
