Hey there W.E.G. -- It might be that screw never had a head, but is a hex wrench type set screw. I have had some luck in the past inserting a twist type drill bit and jamming it in the hex socket and running it in reverse. Sometimes that will back a jammed socket type screw out. Might break the bit too. The next option may be just drilling it out completely. Hope this helps. Best regards (and luck). Wind
Those set screws have no head, just a socket in the end for an Allen wrench. A ham handed mechanic can/will strip it out with possibly the wrong size wrench. A socket head cap screw of the same thread size will use a larger wrench and is available at most hardware stores. that don`t fix yours though.
I would be very careful with the hacksaw so as not to damage the hammer and just cut it off.
You will note that there is a little undercut on the hammer where that set screw was supposed to lock into. when done properly very little force on the screw is needed to hold it solid and the screw comes from Marlin with a locktite like compound already on the threads.
Good luck!
If you have an easy out that will fit down in there I would give that a try first. If not drill it but be mindful of how deep you drill don't want to accidentally drill the hammer. Personally I would cut as a last resort saw blade gouges are darn hard to cover up.

Turns out too its not buggered either.
Gotta wonder why the prior owner left it all loose and floppy like that.
Something tells me this rifle was getting no love before.
Thanks for the help.
I was getting a bit excited at the idea of getting some dremel-time.
Evidently, these rifles ship with the hammer already "notched" for the set-screw on this gizmo.
Notches on both sides of the hammer so you can set it up so it hangs off whichever side you want it.
Now, if Starline will just ship my brass-order, we'll be well on our way.
If the hex is stripped take a Torx head just a little larger than the hex and gently tap it into the hex after a dose of Kroil. It should unscrew fine then and when it is out throw away the stripped screw.
