Prayer request for those at Performance Coal

Post by shawn_c992001 »

Guys I am sure you all heard about what happened at Preformance Coal with 6 dead and 21 men missing. Lets pray for those guys familys and those guys who are missing. Performance is operated by Massey Energy the same company I work for, I do know a few guys who work there and this mine is directly below where I work on top of the mountain.

Just found out about it and prayers were immediately said.

I have lived in WV/VA most of my life and am as familiar with this sort of thing as a non-miner can be. I know this is a grat burden on the families and I hope they have strength to get through this.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I have three young men from my family working that accident as EMT's. Mining is a tough occupation.

It is a sad day here in WV. The whole state comes together when accidents like this happen. I have lost more than a few family members to death or severe accidents in the mine. Including my father(severe injury). I lost one of my best friends just a couple of months out of high school due to a stupid accident. He was killed in an area where he should never have been. The worst part about most of these accidents is that normally human error is the cause. My brother was(retired) the lead Federal investigator for roof support accidents in the USA. And he told me that normally somebody just makes a mistake.

Actually what makes us mad here in WV is when the news press comes in and exploits the family. It makes me sick to watch a reporter questioning a person after such an accident. And they always look for the least educated person they can find. it is just disgusting. Then the reporters always looks for someone to blame immediately. And they just keep repeating their headlines about how many have died. We really do not need them here. A very sad day. Tom.

Prayers sent when I heard of it, but won't hurt to send a few more. Hope the remaining ones are found alive.

Amen... Why can't they just leave the family(s) alone?

Thanks for the update Shawn. I was wondering what was going on. I heard about it last night when I got to work and fired up the big truck.

Prayers being said here too.

Thanks guys! Everyone around here has been pretty down, it's pretty hard when all the media shoves a darn camera in your face when they see you wearing stripes and just stopping to get gas to go to work or home. Now we have some people from Westboro Baptist church telling us that God is not here and they are planning to protest the funerals of those fallen brothers. What is this world coming to? In other countries these people (if you want to refer to them as such, I will not) would be drug to the streets and shot in the guts for treason!

I am not a very violent person. But it would make my day to see a couple of dozen country boys just stomp the mudd out of the Westboro idiots. And I can pretty well guarantee you that if those Westboro idiots stick their noses in too far then that is exactly what they will get. Tom.

Well Tom let me lay this one on ya!!! Just down the road here at Rock Creek there is a small convenience store called "Lloyds". A coal miner was there getting gas and a bottle of pop on his way to work when a guy from Westboro Cult handed him a flyer that said "Thank God for methane gas and dead coal miners". The guy read it and layed the guy out! Well they called the cops and when the trooper arrived the miner held out his hands to be cuffed. The trooper told him to go on to work and he would take care of the guy on his back!

According to the Charleston Gazette, the protestors only were at the state capitol in Charleston. They consisted of 2 men, 1 woman, and 3 children - 6 people total; and were outnumbered by about 300 anti-protestors. Sounds like the news media is sensationalizing again.
