Win model 73 22 short
Brought home a model 73 Winchester in 22 short today. Serial # says it was made in 1890. Does anyone know how many of these were made in 22 short?
Thanks,

No, but I would like to see a picture of that 1873!

Have you hugged your rifle today?
Re: Win model 73 22 short
yes, photos, please.
Congratulations.
Congratulations.
Re: Win model 73 22 short
There was only about 19,500 rimfire 73's made, from 1884-1904.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: Win model 73 22 short
Does it have a loading gate or does it have the tube/inner tube assembly like on most all 22's seen today?

1873 Win 22s don't have a loading gate. IIRC only the Marlin 1891 has a loading gate.

Thanks for the info. It does not have a loading gate, loads into a tube that looks like it will hold at least 25 rounds. I will post pics on Monday, along with a range report (gotta go shoot this this weekend).

How many were made? A better question would be; how many survive?
In my entire life I've seen only one in the flesh and that was 40 years ago. I've heard about three others here on the forums that have/had one. They are rare.

I actually find one for sale, on one of the auction sites, monthly. Here's your chance Joe!

Wow, that's not a bad looking old lever gun. Of course the price is gonna skyrocket I'll bet.jdad wrote:J Miller wrote:How many were made? A better question would be; how many survive?

Add to that I'd have the barrel relined; can't shoot it, don't want it. Then go broke buying outrageous priced 22 shorts. Well it would make a good conversation piece ...... for somebody else.
My 9422 will take care of any lever gun rim fire needs I have.

Did you happen to buy that at Winfrees? If so, congrats on getting a really fine example.

I have one that is in need of restoration.
Something I will probably never get around to doing.

Re: Win model 73 22 short
To what extent does it need "restored"? Were it mine I'd just refurbish it back to shooting condition. But that's just me.mescalero1 wrote:I have one that is in need of restoration.
