OT: 10000 bike ride

Post by perry owens »

Whatever their opinions on the Afghan War most Brits are united in their respect and admiration for the job the coalition troops are doing there and the sacrifices they are making. The small market town of Wootton Bassett is close to the RAF base into which the remains of the fallen are flown. Whatever the weather the townsfolk line the streets as the funeral corteges pass as a mark of respect. On Sunday March 14th bikers from all over the UK will converge on the town for a procession through the town to show their appreciation for the troops and to raise money for the charity that supports the families of the fallen. Over 10000 bikes and 14000 riders and passengers will be taking part

In my 20 year Army career, I worked with the Brits about 20 times.....Finest bunch of fellas you could ever find anyplace in the world. It's a toss up between Brits and Gurkas who can party the hardest.

Best I can tell, motorcycle riders. "Biker" generally means motorcycle rider, and "cyclist" generally means bicyclist. Digging around the site in the link, I saw the registered folks included "pillion" riders, which would mean passengers. I searched for the site of a Brit bicycling magazine forum, searched for "Wootton," and saw no announcements for such a ride on their site.

Interesting event!

I don't usually go to big rally's on my bikes, but that is one I would love to take part in. Thanks for sharing that Perry.
