This is something I have always wanted to do. Be cheaper to just buy if you were smart.
So know you know what column to put me in.
I fear that the casting of this guy is no more.
Not sure they were that big of help anyway after seeing the two builds here.
Other thing here . These guys are artist that make chip making look easy. lol
Castings by Rodney Storie
available from Frontier Armory
One that LOOKED like a easy one to start with was the Whitney Phoenix Rifle.
Action looked strong and simple? Ejector looked a bit tricky???
I thought it had nice lines like a 19th century rifle should?
You might want to check with Doc Carlson as he has the pre cast kits for several s/s rifles and has a real nice Remington Hepburn action. I bought a Martini rifle and am re working it to 50-70.

WOW I did not know that???? I knew he had Remington Hepburn actions. I will have to jack him up.
Thank You for information.
I'm doing a Rolling Block that started with a bare #5 action I picked up for $250. The complete rifle will end up close to $2K by the time I get done. Ya gotta have a barrel, chamber reamer, stock set, sights, having the barrel chambered and mated to the action, action needed to be trued and the block ended up needing replaced...... And I'm doing the metal finishing and inletting and finishing the wood.
Although the level of polish and elegance of a Ruger No.1 is awesome, it does look like a simple-enough design for a home machinist to replicate, compared to the others some are producing. That could be a really cool project, especially in a 'Ruger-never-made' chambering, like .444 Marlin, or many of the 'African' ones.

Wow, that link to Rodney Storie's place could be the downfall of me. There's a lot of actions available for just about anything a single shot shooter would want.
