OT-old British sketch comedy

Waaaay off topic. I remember as a kid watching a BBC sketch comedy but can't remember the name of the show or the stars name. It was probably named after him. It was similar to Benny Hill. He also told stories while sitting in a chair and having a "drink". I also remember he was missing part of one of his fingers. He was a tall thin clean shaven man with dark hair and without glasses. I've looked around on the internet too long and I hope this jars someone's memories. Thanks for any help. Gabby

Dave Allen was a very talented Irish comedian. I was once in the front row of one of his shows and he begged a cigarette off me and then criticised my choice of brand!
