Double action revolver with the "look" of a single action?

Post by Triggernosis »

Is there a double-action revolver that has the typical look of a traditional single action revolver?

H&R / N. E. F. also gave some of their .22's a plow handle grip.

WELL NOW YOU GOTTA UNDERSTAND SOMETHING ALONG ABOUT HERE; THE SA GRIP DOES NOT-NOT-NOT!!!--WORK ON A DA SIXGUN IN CALIBERS ABOUT 22 OR MAYBE 32. YOU HAVE NOT THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SHOOT A SA SIXGUN, AND WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN WHEN YOU SHOOT A DA SIXGUN.
YOU HAVE NOT CONSIDERED WHY THE SA GRIP IS AS IT IS.
YOU HAVE NOT GIVEN ANY THOUGHT AT TO WHY THE DA STYLE GRIPFRAME IS AS IT IS.
YOU HAVE NOT THOUGHT A SECOND ABOUT THE HAMMER SHAPES IN THE TWO HIGHLY DIFFERENT GUNS AND WHY THEY ARE AS THEY ARE.

Somewhere I once see a custom, I belive S&W with a colt saa style grip mated to it. It probley was on the S&W site a year or two ago. It didnt turn me on. Besides the colt lightings & thunders, they had the double action army with a birds head grip. I belive the lightings dated 1877 and the DA Army came out in 1878, also belive it was known as the 1878 colt. Its ejector and barrel were off the SAA. Here is one in .45 colt that I used to own many years ago. The secound picture is a .38 colt lighting I also had.

THIS IS AN INTERESTING ANSWER RIGHT ON THE POINT !!! FRANKLY I'D FORGOT ABOUT THE COLT LIGHTNING AND THUNDERER. THEY ARE AN INTERESTING CONCEPT--AND A T-TOTAL FLOP--THAT BROUGHT THE SELF COCKING IDEA OUT IN A SIXGUN COLT KNEW BEST, THE SINGLE ACTION [ FROM THE 1849 31 ON TO THE ' 73 SAA...] . IT WAS A TOTAL FLOP MOSTLY BECAUSE IT DID NOT WORK HALF THE TIME DUE TO TIMING PROBLEMS WITH THE CYLINDER BOLT WOKING IN AND OUT ON THE BACK OF THE CYLINDER INSTEAD OF UP AND DOWN ON THE OUTSIDE AS A SAA OR A MODERN DA SIXGUN. IT WAS ALSO ONLY AVAILABLE IN PUNY WOOSY CALIBERS ALSO. IF IT HAD BEEN IN 45COLT THAT FIRST STYLE COLT DA GRIPFRAME WITH THE THIN STOCKS WOULD HAVE BEEN A PAINFUL ESSOBEE TO SHOOT, TAKE IT TO THE BANK !!!
THE MODERN FULL SIZED SA WITH THE BIRDHEAD GRIPFRAME FROM UBERTI ETC HAS BEEN QUITE SUCCESSFUL AS MODERATING RECOIL, BUT IT IS STILL A COCK-'EM-AS-YOU-SHOOT-'EM SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER.

I had an H&R 676 22Mag that rode all over the Owyhee desert with me a couple decades ago. It didn't have much of a trigger, but it was tougher than boot leather and keep me comfy on many a night with nothing around but a horse, a whole bunch of cattle, and something just outside the fire light. I liked it so much I gave an old cowboy, my Dad, one of his own.

The looks of the old blue Ruger Service-Six always reminded me of a single-action. I've still got one, a 4 inch with a blue and plume steel finish.
