on win.94AE. Looking at the various fiber optic sights.
How do i know which site i need? as far as dimensions? I know i have a standard 3/8" dove tail. The measurement from top of blade to top of barrel is .300".

Re: Replacing front sight?
What front sight you need will be determined by what rear sight you choose. There are charts and/or formulae that you can use to figure out the correct sight height, and any sight company will have info as to which goes with what.
Re: Replacing front sight?
The correct replacement front sight blade, fiber-optic or any other, depends upon what rear sight the said rifle is wearing.
If it has the issue rear barrel sight, then simply measure the height of the existing issue front sight blade from it's top to the bottom of it's male dovetail (NOT the barrel top).
If the rifle has a receiver peep sight newly mounted, the new front will usually need to be about 1/10" higher than issue, except on Winchester Trappers or other rifles with front sights mounted directly in the barrel ILO in a ramp.
If the rifle has a receiver peep sight, AND it was previously zeroed OK with the old front sight, simply measure to the dovetail as described above.
BTW - FO beads are available in different sizes ( 1/16"/fine; 3/32"/coarse) and different colors, as well as different heights from diverse companies, like Williams, Hi-Viz, and tru-Glo.

Try this formula for the correct height. http://www.skinnersights.com/front_sights_5.html 1886.
