8 shot 22 magnum rimfire revolver

Post by getitdone1 »

I think Smith & Wesson makes a 8 shot 22 MRF. Can anyone tell me the model(s)? Do other manufacturers make'em? Maybe even a 9 shot?

Thanks,

DON, I AM NOT SURE S&W DID MAKE A 22MAG 8-SHOT SIXGUN...ERRR AAAHH 8-GUN.
I KNOW TAURUS DID, AND I SURELY CAN'T CLAIM THAT TO BE A WORTHY SUBSTITUTE FOR THE S&W.

FORGOT TO MENTION SOME OF THE HIGH STANDARD DA/SA SIXGUNS WERE AVAILABLE IN AN 8 OR 9 SHOT VERSION....NOW I FORGET WHICH IT WAS......

High Standard made both 8 and 9 shot guns. I just had to do some research. NEITHER were .22 WRFM.

I think the new S&W M17 is an 8-shot. However, that is a .22 LR. There might be enough meat for conversion to .22 WRFM.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Smith and Wesson makes a Model 351PD 8-shot .22 Magnum revolver. The frame and cylinder are aluminum alloy and the barrel is 1.78".

Last I saw a few weeks ago before Christmas, Lipseys had em in stock for around $780.00 MSRP.

I have a wonderful double-action High Standard Sentinel Mark IV. It is a nine-shot .22 magnum with a three inch barrel. Excellent revolver. I also have a five inch Taurus eight-shot .22 mag kit gun. S&W currently makes the 351PD, a seven-shot .22 magnum snub-nose.

I have been eyeballing one of these forever....One of my first ever carry pieces was the S&W AirLite 317 eight shot .22....I carry this one more than the "real" guns. It's pop can and grouse accurate.

I love it. Nice blued finish, walnut grips. I don't know why someone does not do that now. The double-actions currently built have hammers that are too lightweight, and therefore have to have heavier springs. A heavier hammer would allow the Taurus to have an excellent trigger pull.

Here's the Lipseys link: They say it is a 7-shot. The S&W catalog says 8-shot. Not important.

Thanks for reminding me Terry! Those are the 8-shot guns. As we discussed elsewhere in talking about a friend's Double-9, the 9-shot guns don't leave enough room for the larger diameter WRFM cartridge.

PS - After reading Jeff Quinn's post I'm thoroughly confused. The Double-9 that my friend had didn't have enough room in the cylinder for the little bit of chamber reaming (some due to rim diameter difference). Does Jeff's gun have a slightly larger cylinder?
Sincerely,

Hobie

The S&W website also states that it is a seven-shot. Sometimes those catalogs get misprinted.

I sold the M-351PD I had, two years ago - I just didn't like it as much as the M48 I was trying to replace.

Although my 8-shot/5" Taurus M941 shot well - I actually like a 70's era 6-shot Charter .22 Mag I picked up this last Fall a lot better, and sold the Taurus, too.

The Mark IV is a different model than the ones made to resemble a single action.
I foolishly let one get away from me.

All Mark IV s were .22 magnum. The .22 LR was called the mark I. These guns had steel frames, and were offered with 2,3 or 4 inch barrels, and a Sport model had a 6 inch barrel. The grips on the one pictured are not standard, thankfully. The Mark IV had smooth walnut, grips. There are 9 chambers. I just went to the safe and counted mine. The gun pictured is not my gun.

Thanks Jeff,
Now I can kick myself harder, they were sleek, svelte guns,
it makes it harder to realise, that the friend I let it go to ; did not respect it or deserve it.

I've got a EAA Bounty Hunter 22 revolver with the swappable cylinders for a fun gun.
Image
Then bought the wife a Heritage Arms Rough Rider with the interchangeable cylinders too.

Mine is heavier and feels more like a "real gun", hers is lighter and smaller in general (6 shot) and has a safety on it that she seems to like. She likes hers, I like mine. Neither wants the others. I like that.

errrrrrrrrrrrr, uh guys. Ya know the old saying, "Measure twice cut once". Well, as I age, I'm going to have to initiate a new saying for me, "Read twice type once". I went back and re-read the S&W Catalog and sure enough the S&W Model 351PD .22 Magnum is a "7"-shot revolver. I read the line above the model description of the 351PD. :o No harm no foul but I just wanted to correct myself.
