Re: wish List: What 10 lever guns to buy Next?
I live in Kalifornia and next year (until Feb, 2011) I will be buying as much ammo and components as I can.
If you don't know then I'll tell ya, Arnold signed the bill restricting ammo sales at that point forward.
I done good this year on buyin guns but still NEED at least one more (S&W RB K) to fit to one of the
Fuzzy Farant grips I picked up this year.

Re: wish List: What 10 lever guns to buy Next?
44maghunter, you are right, I just went to the Marlin website and it is the 1894 stainless in 44mag that I want. I did that list from memory and I guess I have .30-30 on the brain, as it is my favorite caliber. But I knew it was an 1894 in stainless I wanted. Thanks for the correction.

Just reread my thread to check for any other errors, there is a typo on the Taylor's 1866, it should rear .45long colt. Guess I need a better proofreader.

Re: wish List: What 10 lever guns to buy Next?
Let's see,
Marlin '94. 16" stainless in .357.
Henry .22M (pump or lever) or Win 9422M
BLR in .22-250
BLR in 7mm-08
Marlin (or whoever decided to make one again) .32M or .327F
It may be pathetic but with that list complete I could be happy without purchasing another gun.

Re: wish List: What 10 lever guns to buy Next?
Well, I have come to strange place in my life. Well, not really, but I can't really come up with 10 more levers, that I want or need.
However, I have never owned a Winchester 73, so I might finally decide to pick up a new replica, if I could ever decide on the caliber.
But I do have a hankering for a Browning 625 Field over and under, and I really don't need another shotgun either.
And then there is that custom 40 cal. Flintlock lurking in the back of my mind.

1. One of those new .460 or .500 ones they're gonna make
2. A .30-30 Marlin 336 in stainless
3. ANY Ruger 96 (especially another .44 Mag)
On the other hand, I'd be better off lookin' for sixguns to go with the levers I do have...!

10? I don't know what I would do with ten, I'd prefer a smaller number I got to use more often, so I'd say about three.
1) Winchester 9422 (already got it)
2) Wincehster 1892 carbine .44mag
3) Winchester 1873 Rifle .357mag
I suppose I could add one of those 1873 .22lr ubertis tho...

Re: wish List: What 10 lever guns to buy Next?
I could not come up with 10. I would love to have a take down with multiple barrels/calibers. Not sure what they would be though. I guess a 94 with like 30-30, 38-55, 35 rem, .375? Not even sure if those combos are possible. Maybe a takedown 1886 in a variety of calibers. I'm leaving need out of this since I'm pretty much complete with the needs category. I can't even find any deer to use the ones I have.

I don't need more toys, I need more time to play with the toys I have. Although, an original Winchester 92 in .218 Bee or .25-20 would be pretty cool. Or for a little less money, a modern 9417 in .17 HMR.

Re: wish List: What 10 lever guns to buy Next?
Leverguns seem to come to me by natural selection rather than any priority list. (if i see one i like, i get it, or put it in the back of my mind as a "someday" purchase)
But in the spirit of Christmas, i will try -- my list is also not really in order of importance either -- and not really hard to make a list of 10 either
1) Marlin 45/70 SBL (I wanted one of these ever since i jammed my walnut/blue Guide gun an inch deep in a muddy creekbed when i slipped and fell this year)
2) WInchester 1894 in .307 winchester, plus enough brass to feed it for a lifetime
3) Winchester 1895 30/06 SRC
4) Winchester 1892 in .45 Colt
5) Winchester 1892 or 1894 Trapper in .357
6) Winchester 1876 (or replica ) in 45/60
7) Henry big ring 16" .22 Carbine (this one may actually be financially attainable in the near future)
One of the 1892 Mares Laig replicas in .45 Colt
9) 1873 (or replica ) - deluxe configuration octagon barrel rifle
10) Marlin lever action .410 shotgun

Re: wish List: What 10 lever guns to buy Next?
It kind of helps to have goals and objectives for your collection. That way, the collection stays on focus instead of becoming an accumulation. Example: I once had nearly 30 Mosin-Nagant rifles and carbines, and woke up and decided I no longer needed to have examples with certain types of stampings on them, and didn't want to run a museum. So I kept only the Finnish Mosins or Finnish-capture marked Mosins, totaling seven examples.
The older I get, the more I lean toward "quality vs. quantity." I have less duplicates and more variety. And I enjoy the collection much more.
For example, I have three 30-30 lever guns; a 16" Marlin Marauder, an 18" stratight-gripped Texan, and my late father's prewar 94 Winchester. I used to have three 16" Winchester Trappers in 30-30, but the Marauder fills that bill and those got sold.
Likewise, I am resisting the purchase of an 1894CSS in 357 Magnum because although I like SS guns, I have a new straight-gripped blued 18" 1894C that is a tackdriver. An 1894CSS would be cool to have, but it would also be a duplicate. My other 357 levers are a Browning B-92 and a 24" Marlin 1894CB.
As for my "short list," it's pretty short:
336CB in 30-30
B-92 in 44 Magnum
My advice: Ask yourself before each purchase, "What would that particular gun do for me and my collecting goals? What other gun do I want moreso than this one?"
JMO, but I hope it helps,
Noah

Might as well face it, you're addicted to guns . . .
Re: wish List: What 10 lever guns to buy Next?
The only levers left on my wish list right now:
1) Marlin 1895 standard 45/70
2) Uberti 1873 24" bbl in .38/.357.
3) Marlin 39a
4) Savage 99 in .300 or .250. Prefer a .250 tapped for a scope.
The rest:
5) An AR-derivative
6) Browning A-5 12ga
7) Ruger Blackhawk .44Mag
Beretta 92FS 9mm
9) Ruger Vaquero .45LC
10) Some sort of uber-accurate semi-auto .22LR target rifle. Or perhaps one in .17HMR.

A full-magazine, straight-stocked .32-20 lever-action.
A Winchester Model 53
A Winchester Model 64
A Winchester Model 71
and maybe a mare's leg!
There are a few single-action revolvers I'd like to get to. Everything in balance fellas!

Here's what I want to buy:
39 TDS SS walnut
336 SS walnut 250 Marlin Express
1894 SS walnut 25-20
Marlin's newly reintroduced Ballard 22lr single shot
1895 Marlin 33 Winchester or 38-56

Where can I see pics of the new Marlin Ballard 22 single shot?
Re: wish List: What 10 lever guns to buy Next?
Winchester 95 SRC in 30/40...just a shooter not a collector.
Marlin 1894 .44 mag pre-safety.
Marlin 1894 .22 mag
Marlin 336T (strait grip, 20" carbine) in .35 Rem...the one that Murbach beat me to would have been great. The same in 30/30 would be nice too.
No particular order of preference, just a good deal when I have the money.

They're what I want to buy next, but Marlin doesn't want to make them.

Well, though I sure do manage to accumulate quite a few firearms over time, I just don't understand this collecting thing. I reckon I am always on the lookout for things like pre-crossbolt-safety 1894C Marlins, even though I don't need them. My current 1894C Marlins have the safety buttons. I also stay alert for a Browning '92 copy. I try to keep the resources handy to put one of these on layaway if the local dealer gets one in.
To go semi-OT, I will probably try to acquire a Shiloh Sharps or a Lone Star Rolling Block one of these days. I like Ruger Number Ones, so I am susceptible to accumulating more than the two I have now.
Back to levers, I will eventually acquire a Marlin 39A, assuming the Good Lord grants me the time. (No, my health is fine, as far as I know; I have had some recent reminders of my mortality, reminding me to never assume I will see three score and ten.)
A Browning Model 71 will get my attention.
That is still less than ten, even with the semi-off-topic rifles thrown in. Just to be clear, I may well manage to accumulate ten more lever rifles in my life; I just don't "do" lists.

I don't have too many more on the wish list anymore, but I would like to pick up a nice Ruger #1 in 45-70. Maybe follow that up with a Marlin 444XLR and I'd be good to go.
Well done is better than well said.
