OT: I called it a season..

Post by bigbore442001 »

For Massachusetts archery anyways. I retrieved one image from a trail camera set up. I don't have to tell you what it is.

I went out this morning and saw nothing. I did hear the gun fire of pheasant hunters and chatted with Dad after he hunted with the crossbow. So far we have nothing for the archery season. Archery is tough. Things have to be just right. I could go out this afternoon but I wasn't feeling 100% this morning. I figured an afternoon of rest will do me some good.

After Thanksgiving I will have another month of shotgun then muzzleloader but I am not too confident. Statistically and by my own records, the month of December has the least amount of success for either of us.

So,....is that typical hunting attire in Massachusetts...?

Me too. A very poor season in general in my area. Black powder closes tomorrow, but I cleaned the rifles this morning. No fresh signs in my areas, low population so i'll give them a chance to recover and re-populate.

proof that Sasquatch lives! I'd call the National Enquirer.

I like that outfit bigbore.
Sorry on your bad season, I was out in the strong wind and rain this afternoon with my bow.
I missed two rabbits, shattered a cedar shaft on another rabbit, missed a bedded fox at 9yds  but got a 9yard squirrel but snapped the broadhead off  Absolutely loved it all though :D

How does your dad go on with that crossbow? Does he keep it cocked while waiting or load it when something is stiring?

I'm glad it's not just me

There is another week left to Vermont's general firearms season and then we have a week long muzzle loader season.

I've been seeing deer almost every day, but none of them are legal to shoot.

Where we hunt in the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut he has special permits to use them during our archery season. If you have an upper body disability and a doctor's note you can obtain a special permit to use a crossbow during the archery season. I hate to say it but since September 15th between Connecticut and Massachusetts he has seen three deer.

I will be honest, the crossbow is no miracle weapon. Between the choice of my Bowtech Guardian and his Parker Cylcone Crossbow I would take my bow over his. You have a lot of limitations with it believe it or not. It is cumbersome and you have a limited range of motion from a tree stand.

I hunted this afternoon but saw nothing. I heard two owls communicating between each other but that was it. After the hunt I went to the club bar for some libation.

You guys are making me jealous. I will be missing out on the entire deer/pheasant season. I'm stuck overseas. I wish y'all the best of luck on your hunting.

I think an alien like that abducted me once. Made me eat barbecue and drink beer till all hours of the night. When I got home, I couldn't account for any of the time, it was like it was wiped from memory. Of course, wife didn't believe me. Wish I had had that picture to show her.
