Gents:
Howdy! Some of us just have to be different, and I'm one of those "us." For double action sixguns I like Colts more than Smiths, and for lever guns Marlins over Winchesters. (No knock on Smith or Winchester---could've just as easily gone the other way.)
Anyway, I was wondering about Marlin's factory "non custom" repair work. From posts I've seen at the original forum, and here (I think) and at a couple of other lever-specific fora, it seems that from time to time Marlin will take rifle "a" and turn it into rifle "b". IIRC, at least one regular ol' plain-Jane 336 (20" .30-30 carbine) was turned into a .38-55 Cowboy.
Does anyone know, and can anyone tell me, where Marlin draws the line between "custom work" and "repair work"? Is it a matter of "what they have in inventory" or is it something more subtle than that?
Best,
Kid Cossack
