Front sight for Browning 92 ?

Post by revorg »

Greetings all !

I have a Browning 92 and would like to do something about the front sight, maybe a blade with a gold or white bead. I understand some machining will be involved. My old Remington 725 front sight has a nice blade held in by a pin, does anyone know of a source for these ?

I am also open for any other ideas... :)

You can check gunpartscorp.com or Brownells.com.

I made my own blade-type front sight blade for a B92 .44 I had, after I had zero luck searching for something "un-radical".

I ended up filing off the thin upper post part of the issue front sight, leaving the square base - in which I filed a thin groove down it's center, inline with the bore, about hallf it's depth deep and about 1/10" wide (the size of the needle/edge file I had on hand).

I then thinned out the lower, dovetail-part of a regular Ivory bead front sight, alternating the sides on a grinding wheel - until I had an Ivory bead sight blade 1/10" thick.

I clamped the thinned sight blade in my hand filed slot, and cross-drilled the square base with a 1/16" bit - which shank I later ground shorter to use as the sight blade pin (w/loctite).

It's not a very good picture but this is my fix for the Browning.

Not exactly the same but it's a better picture of the actual sight.

Next option would be to remove the sight block and cut a dovetail then you could use just about any thing you want.

NKJ,

That pinned on sight looks to be the way to go. The barrel is very light and I don't think there is enough 'meat' for a dovetail... 'least not with me running the file.

Thanks for the pic's :D

Looks like I will be using a marbles sight for the project, I like those serrations. 8)

I'm sorry, I lost a lot of my pics when a section of my hosting site had issues - but Kiowa's pics pretty much tell the tale.

FWIW, It seemed apparent to me that the square front sight post base of my 1975 B92 was hard soldered in place - the reason why I fitted an adapted sight blade ILO replacing it with a commercial bead like a Marble's, etc.
