Zat yer wife?
Jim's story about the Oracle Skilsaw Massacre reminded me of my own tale of massacre and mayhem.
Living in the wilds of Orange County, California means one has to work long and hard to hunt. But, I'd scouted and hunted the pre-season and was sure of several deer hiding in the backyard near Holy Jim Canyon or Horsethief Canyon below the spine of the Cleveland National Forest. Opening morning found me down near the bottom of Horsethief Canyon with my Blazer parked up near the top. After 1st light and no movement, I figured I'd have to jump a deer, as they'd moved into their bedding areas before light. Around 11am I finally jumped a good forked horn Blacktail and knocked him down with the first shot.
It was almost 5 pm by the time I got him up to the road along the spine and field dressed and wrapped up for the long drive home. And it was a fair piece, as I had to go out the long way to get thru a fire or ranger station to get my tag validated. (In CA, an LEO or fireman can validate tags, but not yer own!) So, out to the Ortega Hwy and down in San Juan Capistrano to the county fire station. Once validated, it back up to Costa Mesa and to the house.
I got me cleaned up a little, and it being a nice fall evening in the OC, I turned on the lights in the garage and left the big door open for some breeze.
I hung the carcass by the antlers in the rafter and started at the hindquarters and started cutting and wrappin' meat and putting it in the freezer.
I was done with both hindquarters when I heard this authoritative voice ask, "Mind if I come in?" I turned, knife in hand, bloody to the elbows and found one of Costa Mesa's finest standing in the door of my garage looking at my handiwork...
A couple of chuckles after he'd seen the antlers in the rafter and told me that one of the good citizens had driven by and reported that "...a man was cutting up his wife in his garage!"

Brought a chuckle, thanks

Re: Zat yer wife?

With you I hope.
A few months ago I and a co worker went to Bakersfield to get some network equipment working etc then to the Orange County Sheriffs Department Head Quarters. Lets just say that we got off to a bad start. We left maybe 15 minutes later than we expected for Bakersfield but arived hours later....
Any way after finishing our buisiness at the OC sheriifs department we left for Sacarmento . Drove over the grape vine and tried to get some sleep. Tried is th key word here. Niether of us could. He drove to Sacramento and from his house I drove home. Man knowing how much I was having to compensate for the wind on the grape vine to keep my tiny Toyota Tacoma on the road made a major impression on me regarding truck drivers. Never before had I heard wind through vents doors etc. But while climbing the grape vine out of LA I did several times. Ok the darn wind was shoving the truck around if I let it. No I did not let it. But wow what an eye opener!

My goodness Griff, your neighbors seem to have a mighty poor perception of what types of women you find attractive.
" ... yep, that's Ole Griff, likes them short-legged, long torso'd gals, with the little feet."

Have a good afternoon all,
and happy shootin' to ya

Re: Zat yer wife?
thats the best story Ive heard in a long time.
Almost better than the NYC native- Palm Beach Fl Deputy who wanted to shoot a jersey cow in the middle of the road... I will have to share that one later.

Diet Coke out my nose onto the keyboard, thanks Grif. As a fellow Kalifornian (Stockton) I can only say be glad the SWAT team didn't show up.

Re: Zat yer wife?
the winds on grapevine can be brutal... but that truck speed limit coming down is the worst part imho
