Prettiest levergun
ok, forget caliber, cartridge capacity, range, accuracy, which levergun is your favorite for looks?
I don't necessarily mean adornment or wood quality, either, just basic design.
I think the nicest looking levergun is the Winchester 92. I don't have one though. I almost bought one I didn't need just for that reason.
I have two 336's, even though they're a little clunky to look at.

Re: Prettiest levergun
I do like the 92s, and the 94s are pleasing to look at as well. But I think my favorite has to be an old 1886 that's been carried out in the woods for a hundred years or so.

My first pic would be the 1874 SHARPS
Second pic would be a 1873 Winchester
Third pic would be my Marlin 336 or 1894
Sure wish I would hit the lottery so i could buy the top two picks!

And this Marlin 1895CB is no slouch on looks, either.

The Win '73 has to be close to the top, though I love the looks of my 1886 long barrel. I'm partial to them. So in my case, the 1886 wins out.

I like the 73's quite a bit, and the 1866 rifles. I like the 86's most.
That's an 86 carbine on the wall.
...and a short rifle in the rack, 3rd down.
I like these a lot too.

If I pick up a Marlin and just look at it, it makes me want to sell it. If I pick up an 1894 or 1886, I think about what a work of art if is.

Winchester 1894 SRC Straight stock, 20" barrel and full length magazine.
For those not up on collector terminology that would be late 1800s early 1900s vintage.

It's a toss up, for me, (Rimfire) Pre-WW1 Marlin 1892 or Pre-WW2 Marlin 39A.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: Prettiest levergun
For me it'd be an old 1894 or 1893 Marlin.
Something like these, but original. I cant afford them when I find them & thats not often at all. So putting them back together will have to do until I hit lotto.

For me, it's the Winchester Model of 1873, 24" octagon barrel.
And, for me, nothing else comes up quicker and cleaner than a '73 rifle.
I love my '86 Extra Light Rifle, and I can't pass up a real '92, but there's just something visceral & primal about a '73...

I like the deluxe 86's myself ... with a nice color-case receiver. Though the Turnbull worked 76's shown in prior links are stunning.

For basic design and just plain functional and pure levergun my vote has to go to the M-71. That is as good as it gets

1886 26" octagon barrel, full length magazine. Straight grip or pistol grip stock, don't care. Crescent buttplate. I like just about all the levers, but to me, this one's the queen of 'em all! (wish I had one )

The model 64 Winchester. It's lines just appeal to me. The new Marlin 336MX, 308 and 338 I like the look of also. The model 94 Legacy is a good looking rifle too. It seems I like the long, sleek lever rifle look.

Claybob 86 is a man who knows leverguns. I have wanted an original 86 with an octagon full length barrel since I was 15 years old(now 44), but when I had the money couldn't find one and when I found em didn't have the money(sound familiar to any of you). Tom

Re: Prettiest levergun
Yep....I've got one of those new model 1895 Winchesters in .405 with the color case receiver. It's a real beauty!!
My favorite levergun that I own is a Winchester Model 1886 short rifle. It's a .45-70 with the 22" octagonal barrel, straight grip stock, and a full magazine tube. Made in 1897 if I remember right. Still shoots great and is mechanically flawless. It's one of those guns that is easy on the eyes and seemingly shoots all by itself. Of all my leverguns, this one comes to the shoulder most naturally and it hits what I point it at. Not bad for a 100+ year old weapon.
I know...worthless without pictures. I really need to figure out just how to do that.

I have been seaching the files for a picture of my prettiest rifle but I can't find it. It is without a doubt, a Winchester Model 1892 24 inch round barrel rifle in 32WCF made in 1917 that I bought in 1954.It is just a long thin slender piece of beauty.

Re: Prettiest levergun
Just stuck on the Big Bores I guess. What appeals to me is they are variations on a classic theme. They're 94's, but have the "bull" barrel giving it a little beefier look and feel, as do the pregnant side walls. Yet when you handle them, they feel as slim, trim and balanced as a standard 94 Win. The added power in 356 Win., with not much more recoil, is just icing on the cake. Please excuse the gun bench.....it was having a bad hair day.
