A Sourdough sight??

Post by nralover »

I guess this is what all the hype is about? If so, what is the right height for my 94 Winnie in .32 Winchester Special?

Yep, that's what we are all talking about. No hype to it.
Since you didn't say what rear sight you're using I'll just guess you should start off with the .343" tall sight.

Sorry- I didn't mean to come off as a smartalec. I will either buy a one ragged hole sight or a Williams FP.

I have the .343" tall one on several Marlin 336`s with the Williams and Lyman receiver sights.
Measure the front that is on your rifle now to see what it is and replace with the closest size.

Tis far, far better to err on the taller side, though.

nralover,
Don't worry about it. You didn't come over as a smart butt.

I just noticed that Brownells no longer shows the .343" tall one in stock.

That's probably because it was the most called for size and Marbles has discontinued the darn things again. I wanted to get one of each

The next one UP is .500  That would work for the Marlin Cowboys.

The original "sourdough" front sights were inlaid with gold....where the new Marble's are brass.

Why not give us a sight that we want, rather than some piece o' stuff sight that will not reflect light.

Ain't we ALL willin' to pay for (at least a gold-plated insert) sight as they originally existed?

I can't believe the prices paid for some of the rifles that we cherish and covet, but put up with the PISSPOOR iron sights that have been either substituted or otherwise been prostituted in the quest for a fast buck. Can't really blame them, though....if the sights can't be replaced. Sell 'em on Gunbroker for nearly the price of the original rifle

[The original "sourdough" front sights were inlaid with gold....where the new Marble's are brass.]

Every original Redfield Sourdough Patridge front sight that I bought in the 60's has a brass inlay - although you'd have thought I was payin' fer gold ! ;)

Now, back then Marble's also had a sight they called the Gold Sheard Bead - but IMO it was prolly plated.

The onlyest precious metal front sights, I've ever seen, were the German Silver fronts on old & custom Muzzleloaders, and some revolver fronts made from half a Silver US Dime.

If you don't like brass, you might try this, http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ ... ONT+SIGHTS. Page to the bottom.
