Finished my latest project-proplem occurred..

I bought this 76 Taylors a while back and bought the sight from one of our members a year or so ago and made some modifications to the sight. I really like this rifle even more now that I have it ready for deer this year. Thanks to Mescalero for the confidence and the lathe information, I think it worked out fine. I took a Uberti tang sight and a lathe and made a new thumb screw that fits my personality better than the one with a screw slot that came with it. I TIGed the holes in the side of the base and machined them smooth. I then made a hatted detent(bullet-shaped) so when the sight is in full position, it locks, and finally, I softened the base so that the ears have some squeeze to it with the thumb screw.

Now for the problem. A friend of mine came over to visit as I was testing for accuracy and fell in love. I just so happened to have an identical Taylor's 76 in the same caliber without the tang sight so I ended up with a good used pickup in an even trade. Now, he is considering selling off all of his other guns and using the Taylor's for all of his rifle hunting needs. I may have created a monster.

I tried to make the photo larger for clarity but I was unsuccessful.

Morgan, you have demonstrated initiative, ingenuity, craftsmanship, and enthusiasm. Then, you made a profitable deal with which all parties were happy.

I argued with myself off and on for a long time on whether to get a '76 in 45/60 or a '73 in 38/40 and finally settled on the '73. And then, something like this comes along and again I ask myself if I wouldn't be happier with the '76. Thanks, Morgan, you're a peach. :D
