33 wcf is a .338?
I just got a e-mail back on thursday from a big name bullet company. I e-mailed them about using there bullets in my '86 for hunting (single loading because there spitzers) and got a response back that the 33 wcf dosen't take .338 it takes a .333 acording to them. I never heard this before I've been shooting cast .338 with no problems and I always thought the hornady and hawk bullets were .338 and that the .333 were from the british rounds. Has anybody heard this before, I think .338 is right but any information is greatly appreciated.

33 WCF is .338 not .333. Before the 338WMag Elmer Keith and a couple of other guys developed
a .33 Mag that was .333. Hawk bullets makes a FN .338 and Alaska Bullet works makes a FN .338 that are made for the 33 WCF and Hornady use to. danny

No, they are feeding you the wrong information. The .33 Winchester definitely takes a .338 diameter bullet. The .333 is for the .333 Jeffery, and most assuredly NOT for the .33 WCF. Someone needs to give them a clue.

I would also like to know which "big name" bullet company reported such. I'm betting it's Sierra or Nosler, as they are not known for their FP selection like the other two. We know it's not Hornady.

It's a .338. The Hornady 200 grain spire points will anchor any big game animal you can hit in the right place. Why dont you post the name of this company so we know who to stay away from?

Thanks for the info. I thought they were all .338 so what I got back in the e-mail surprised me (I should have told them I've been shooting .338 cast in a 33 wcf for the past couple of months). I think I'll call them monday and talk to the customer service people(It looks like they don't know what the 33 WCF is). I'll post a reply after I talk to them and let you know what I find out.

Re: 33 wcf is a .338?
I talked to the service dept. guy today and he said that .333 was the listed dia. in Cartridges Of The World.I explaned it to him though that the 33 is a 338 and COTW must be a misprint because my rifle measures .338 and mentioned this website to him also.So I think I got the problem fixed but has anyone seen this in Cartridges Of The World. If they do have it written wrong maybe we should make it known.
Re: 33 wcf is a .338?
He's right Cartridges of the world has it as .333, but every other source I have says .338. Plus I have a box of Hornady 200 gr SP , which are .338.

My CotW 11th Ed doesn't list ANY dimensions for the .33 Winchester. Just some basic historical info and and three loads, none of which have any dimensions outside of specifying a 200g SP bullet.

It's also in the last page of the "obsolete cartridges" pages. Not the first time that COTW was incorrect in data they printed. Be careful taking everything they print as gospel. Double check all their data if there's any doubt at all!
