Most of my hunting these last few months has been in gun catalogs
The keeper has now given me and junior permission to shoot rabbits and such all over the estate.
Well I zeroed the 9422 with a 4x40 scope and she shot pretty well, however I just plain don't like scopes, so Saturday I took it off and zeroed it in with the standard open sights.
Well my 60 year old eyes are not what they once were but in good light I was hitting my mark as well as when it was scoped. I also found that it was smack on at 60 yds with sub sonics and without changing the sights bang on at 30yds with CB longs.
Whilst doing all this shooting I started to think, why the heck would I NEED a bolt action! The 9422 is so slick and easy to carry and it can take rabbits at the sort of range I like to shoot.
I rarely shoot at rabbits past about 80 yds now but years ago my longest kills on magpies were a measured 138 yds. and that was with a unscoped BSA b/a I even killed a rabbit at 120 yds with my 1873 Uberti .22 a couple of years ago.
As for needing a silencer, I use CB longs for a lot of close range stuff and sub sonics HP for the rest.
I'm going to try some sort of peep sight if I get the 30/30 and perhaps put one on both my 9422s as well.

An old friend owned my 9422 for a few years from new before he packed up shooting. I knew what it was capable of like the time I watched him shoot a running fox repeatedly striking the fox about five times out of seven or eight shots before it gave up and so I had to have it.
Have I missed a bolt or auto- NOPE!
Another thing is I don't have to alter the scope for different brands of ammo, just put's them there. Sure on paper there may be a difference but general rabbit and squirl shooting I can't tell!
Work the lever quick or slow the empty pings out and near silent cycling.
Silencers, hate em. If ever something spoiled the lines of a gun it's a silencer/moderator. Anyway I like making a noise, that way folk have no doubts whats going on and if they don't like it go else where

Only this morning the farmer rang me to ask how we got on and said he could hear us shooting
Your long shots without scopes are something to be proud of, I take my hat of to ya
