Rossi M92 Bolt Safety
I found a Rossi M92 at a local gun store and might be able to obtain it cheap. It has one of those unsightly bolt safeties on it. So, I have a question. Does the bolt safety affect any other function of the action? Does it affect the trigger or trigger pull? Does it affect action cycle? Anything? I'm considering this rifle and may just freeze the safety in the fire position so it doesn't turn when pulled from a scabbard (or beneath a blanket in the back seat), or I might just remove it and fill the hole with epoxy. But I need to know if it does anything besides make company attornies happy.

Idiot, where you been the last year or so? This subject has been worked over like the proverbial dead horse.Idiot wrote:I found a Rossi M92 at a local gun store and might be able to obtain it cheap. OK to answer your questions: No, it has nothing to do with anything but locking the firing pin.
Now, our own Nate Kiowa Jones { http://www.stevesgunz.com/ } makes a dandy little drop in plug to get rid of that stupid safety switch. That's the way I'd go.

Re: Rossi M92 Bolt Safety
Only thing it does is lock the firing pin. No effect on the trigger pull, just ugly.
Nate Kiowa Jones of this board makes a plug to replace the safety. I personally just ignore the thing.

Re: Rossi M92 Bolt Safety
When I first got mine I dispised the thing. But ya know, it sure is nice for unloading a full mag tube in the house if ya have too. I was going to remove it, but so far it just does nothing unless I turn it on. It's ugly, but I am the only one who see's it, so who cares. And it can be usefull on occasion, for now anyway's.

I wouldn't mind them as much if they had really positive detents, like the Marlin crossbolt ones do.
If a gun has to have a safety (and on an exposed hammer gun I do think perhaps they DON'T), then the least you should expect is that when it is put ON, it STAYS ON, and when it is put OFF it STAYS OFF.
I do like the 'extra' protection if I have to cycle through a bunch of rounds when unloading. Of course if you get the 'rhythm' and timing right, you can do it short of actually chambering any rounds. My favorite is the 'tube loader' port designs, because they are like the droppable floorplates on bolt actions; you can instantly empty the magazine without running any cartridges through the action. Can load fast too, and without scraping the brass all up if your side-gate is not polished (and most aren't, these days, at least not by the factory).

That has been the biggest complaint from the CAS shooters, even with the Marlin. Eventually it gets bumped on and you end up dumping live rounds for 5 second penaties for each one. One feller told me he missed a nice deer because it somehow got bumped on and when he dropped the hammer on the safety it scared the deer off.
plug it.

Makes a great place to mount a bolt peep sight.
Re: Rossi M92 Bolt Safety
Ohhhhh really? Hmmmm. Have you seen one sighted as such? Maybe the hole ain't so bad after all. Besides, now understanding that it's completely inert, I can knock it out, pound a lead sinker in its place, and get on with killing rocks. Thanks guys.MrJudgeOC wrote:Makes a great place to mount a bolt peep sight.

I believe that N.K.J. at Stevesguns is producing just such an item and IIRC the price was quite reasonable too!Idiot wrote:Ohhhhh really? Hmmmm. Have you seen one sighted as such?
