Not O.T. What's the best looking gun you ever owned?

Post by CowboyTutt »

This is probably going to be mine. Its my new custom Colt Lightning from AWA with upgraded wood, CCH receiver, trigger guard and butt plate from Turnbull as well as authentic charcoal bluing of the small parts. I'll have a new article out on it in the future but first I have to write about my experiences at the Friends of Billy Dixon Ultra Long Range Facility Journalist Invitational that I attended April 15-17th. Please post pics of your own guns!!!!

See if I can find some good photos.

I don't have any that look that good!

I guess my best looking gun is my Krieghoff 470.

Andy -

Great post idea! I'm going to have to noodle on this one a bit. Probably the 1895 High Grade I purchased from mod71alaska here. Maybe the Pietta LeMat. Hmmm...

Hey - that Lightning is not in BRIGHT YELLOW. What gives?

Errr, they were fresh out?

One "Canary Yellow Bear Whacker" is enough. I love the thing, wouldn't trade it for any other double action revolver it shoots so well (even at 300+ yards and don't ask me how I know!)

Those 1895 HG's make me woozy! I may have to break down and get one some day....What's the icon for pure lust??

Green face does nicely!

Problem is that Victor started me down a path that several folks here have "helped" - not that I needed help in feeding my addiction!

It has taken a lot of will-power not to shoot the 1895, but I promised myself Y2K would get to take the first shot. It is in .30-06, so he should be ready in another year or so...

I have a bunch that I am proud of. Not a lever, but here is a custom heavy bench rest. It was built up by H.W. Creighton. Its a FN Mauser supreem action .270 win with super fancy wood. Cheekpiece on the other side.

Here is a 1890 winchester that I THINK is not original. Has a extra length pistol grip stock with cheekpiece. It "fits" me. Since I belived it already fooled with, I had it rechambered from .22wrf to ,22 WMRF. It works.

Bill, some very nice firearms you have there. I particularly like the Python!
"Colt Lightning from AWA" What's an AWA?
Ed, AWA stands for American Western Arms located in Florida. They were bought out by their gunsmith Russell Simpson years ago who is now the President of the company. Russell is probably almost single handedley responsible for the modern recreation of the Colt Lightning rifle. I'll tell you all about it when I write the official article on the rifle later!

Those are some very nice guns guys. This is a shameless thread 8) I like it!

I have so many that make me smile, it's hard to chose. The prettiest wood I have is easily my custom Remington 700. Shilen barrel and action work, 30-06. I think it needs a new recoil pad though:

And here is my prettiest metal - Browning 1886 SRC with colors by Turnbull:

And this is my overall best looking rifle - the one that gives me the biggest smile - 1888 mfg, 45-70, 1/2 oct and 1/2 mag. Standard wood, faded colors, aged perfectly, IMO :D

Tutt stick a good ladder sight on that lightning and wow the devil out of em at 500 yds at Hotchkiss. I'm hoping to make the Midwest Nationals at Alliance May 1-3. They're having long range 22 match and a seperate levergun match on Friday, before the long range and buffalo shoot on Saturday and Sunday. Kenny Wasserburgers traditional Creedmore and Mile Match are the following weekend, but I won't make that as that's the same weekend we're branding.

Well, it's not the purdyest but it is a nice looking example of a working rifle. She's a Marlin .444S manufactured in 1979. Good wood, metal, and steel (at least to my eyes) and accurate.

Probably one of these two: a Lefty Pennsylvania Rifle in 54 cal. Flint and a newer Winchester Big Bore in 444 Marlin. One that got away would be a Remington Mod. 1900 Double Shotgun...finest I've ever had. My Model Marlin 39A should have been included in this photo too, as it very pretty as well. The first picture does not do the longrifle justice....it has a very nice stripe.

I've got all 4 Browning model 71's, but with no doubt in my mind at all, my favorite is the Standard Grade carbine. Not as fancy as the high grades, and not as big as the Standard Rifle, but something about that carbine just sets me off.
