The Winchester Book

Post by KWK »

I've seen this book (by George Madis) mentioned in these forums many times, and I finally requested a copy through the library. What a treat this book is! The variety of options Winchester offered up to (I gather) 1908 made for some extraordinary rifles. I'm feeling an urge to modify some hapless Uberti into something unique but along the lines of what Winchester once offered. I do recommend this book.

It has, for many years been referred as the Winchester "Bible". As for altering a Uberti in the tradition of a Winchester... go for it! But post pics!

First the hard part: I must decide which of those gorgeous old rifles I most want to copy. Some of those long barreled 73s and 92s are calling for me...

Kirk: An old geezer who loves the smell of freshly turned earth, old cedar rail fences, wood smoke, a crackling fireplace on a snowy evening, pristine wilderness lakes, the scent of
cedars and a magnificent Whitetail buck framed in the semi-buckhorn sights of a 120-year old Winchester.

+2...the most useful book there is for shooting old Winchesters. The other MUST HAVE for any gunners library is the set of P.O.Ackley's "Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders"...real information for experimenters and real shooters.

the collectors series by arthur pirkle are good info too,
as well as the winchester 94 by bob rennerberg,
sounds like he's winding up for a new edition too.
careful what you wish for, you might just get it.
