Lets Ask Hornady To Make 348 Leverevolution Bullets

Post by RANisbet »

I went to their web site and sent the below message.
If lots of folks do the same, we may get a new bullet for our Model 71 rifles.
Dear Hornady Folks,
I have been using your reloading components for over 30 years.
I wish to ask you to consider a production run of leverevolution bullets in 348 caliber.
There is a significant following for this round, and since there are no companies producing loaded jacketed 348 cartridges, you would be in an advantageous position. A single production run of perhaps 200,000 to 500,000 leverevolution tipped 348 bullets would probably sell out quickly.

Since lead will soon be banned nationwide, don't you think that we should be asking manufacturers to produce copper bullets in all calibers, .348 included. :)

It's time to tell the powers that have appointed themselves to be to back off and leave alone those things (which includes almost everything...) they know NOTHING about...

Lead bullet bans included...

Buck, you and I know that, but they certainly won't back off the lead ban, or any other "feel good" legislation. Think about the animals. I'd laugh but it makes me ill. :(

When the 348 comes up for production again, which will be some time, we
will be considering exactly what you suggest. It's going to be a while
though.

COOL, NOW WE NEED TO PUSH THEM FOR A .356 WCF. ROUND. A 220 GRAIN BULLET WOULD BE NICE.

I guess I'm probably in the minority here...but I see no reason to "gimmick" up the .348 Winchester. Leverlution bullets or whatever they are called are nothing more than a gimmick IMO and I would hate to see the grand old cartridge of the Model 71 sold like that. Personally I believe that a FN or RN bullet style is much more effective than the latest rubber tipped wonder.

It was wonderful back when I was 18, (1962) you walked into a gun store and a box of SilverTip .348's were about 6.95. I think they were 58.00 at Midway last time I seen some available, so if the rubber tipped babies can keep some dirt poor young guy with ammo to shoot, I'm all for it. I've got 5 model 71's, and grand old cartridge or not, the rifles deserve something to shoot. It's still a free choice what one does, I only have SilverTips, they knock over an elk like he's a small deer, but I'd try some LE's if they loaded factory rounds, or reloads either one.

I guess the real question is: When was the last time you saw a real bullet failure to blame for the 348 Winchester? Why solve a nonexistent problem?

I'd be happy if Hornady would make some 250 gr .348 bullets. I'm not concerned about the rubber tips, the regular Hornady .348 bullets are faily good regarding BC, (unlike their 30-30 170 gr bullets, which has about the BC of a full wadcutter).

Thanks for responding Kathy. Nice to know the folks in the industry listen.

I would love to have some .375 or better yet .377" 225gr Leverevolution bullets. Also some for the 405 Win. :o

You might be able to size down the 200gr .358 bullets using something like the Lee push thru die. I size down .458 slugs to .452" to use in my 450 bushmaster and they work great. You could use one of the 9mm push thru dies first, and then get Lee to make you a custom push thru die ($25) for the second sizing and have your 348 bullets now.

if not the leverrevolutions, how about some light magnums in .307,348,356,etc. i don't care if it does take a gimick to get some extra production of these great numbers. currently produced ammo is scarse and way, way, overpriced. let's get more of these fantastic irons back out shooting again.

Iam with you about a 250 grn hdy the 200 grn does work but sheds velocity and mushrooms to much for deep penetration on elk and moose and a 250 would be nice to handle a big bear that might come in on you. Ive shot alot of deer & elk with the hdy 200 but would like a 250 without going to a hawk or barnes , Ive even considered taking their 35 cal RN 250 and sizing it to 348 and seeing if it would work and be accurate. I email hdy about every couple of years about making a 250 they say not enough demand. danny

How bout we ask Barnes to make a 225gr or so TSX in .348. By the way how do we ask any manufacture to make a specific product? A barrage of spam? J/K
