question-can a Marlin 336 in 44mag be turned to a 45 colt?

Post by cvarcher »

I have a nice Marlin 336 straight stock in 44 mag.I reload for 45 colt and would love to have this rifle in that caliber. Is this hard to do? Wouldnt the magazine and carrier handle the closely dimensioned 45 cartridge? Can the barrel be rebored to 45 colt going from .429 to .451"? Who could do it and how much ?

It can be done BUT the cost would prolly be more than a new rifle. :(

A 336 in .44mag is a real rare bird and you would prolly lose value after the conversion. Better to sell the rifle and get a nice 1884 in .44mag.

cvarcher,

As scarce as the 336 in .44 Mag is, you could probably find someone willing to buy it or trade it for an 1894 in .44 mag.

I know it's your gun, and I really do know about the .45 Colt addiction, but I wouldn't alter such a rarely seen Marlin.

I'd trade it on a .45 Colt gun. The conversion is not cost effective.
