Great day in the woods w/ the 44mag
It was a great day to get out in the woods for some bumming around and some target shooting. So, in the morning I took the wife and kids out for a few hours and hit the trails. The little one has one of those battery operated Power Wheel Jeeps so he kept us all in step and chased up a few rabbits too. Then at lunchtime we headed out.
The night before I rolled up 50rds of Hornady XTP 300gr and 19gr of H110 to shoot in my Win94 Trapper and 4 1/2" Super Blackhawk, so I went back out for some target practice.
After 5 shots with the Trapper I was sighted in 2" high at 50yds. I backed up to 75yds and let off 3 shots that cloverleafed on the top half of the bullseye.
Then I loaded up the Ruger SBH and moved up to 25yds. Put the first 3 shots about 7" high but centered. So I lowered the rear sight as low as it'd go and decided that'd be a better starting point. To my surprise the next three shots all grouped right below the bullseye. I packed up everything and went back to the house.
This was probably the quickest, easiest, most satisfying target session I've ever had with a new load.
Had a great relaxing morning with the wife and kids.
My favorite lever/revolver combo proved they are definitely worth their weight in gold.
I'm definitely one happy camper.

Love the .44's...! Marlins, Pumas, Rugers, Desert Eagles - whatever ones you have.

Tough to be the 44...and being in the woods!
I love mine too!
Sure was a great weekend to be out shooting...
But I brought out the shotguns and shot some skeet...
real crowded too...
