Went to the local gun shop today and the dealer just got in a 92 winchester SRC in 38-40. He wants $1500 for it but the condition is about a modest 50% with a nice bore. Unfortunately, it appears that somebody replaced the wood(not to bad but has gaps in the fit.) I don't remember the serial number off hand but are they really bringing that much?
He did give me some old water-damaged amunition that he was going to throw away: Winchester paper Super-speed shotgun, 300 Savage Silver-tip, and some 270. That made me happy because I just save the shot, bullets and brass. I sure wish the boxes were in better shape.
Price check or reality check?

Re: Price check or reality check?
Nope...not with replaced wood, and in the condition as you described. Truth is, I've seen very few '92's with poor bores in that caliber. The SRC is worth a little more than the std. rifle, but not anywhere near the price you quoted, and especially with replaced stocks. I would say maybe in the $700 range....if that even, because of the non-original aspect of the stocks.

From what you are describing, he is considerably too high, at least in my estimation. Maybe more like $5-600. for a '92 carbine in that condition.
