OT: Weather Check!!
I registered a balmy -13 this morning at our home which is about 45 miles SW of Indianapolis. That could explain why my I've had to feed my wood stove so much lately!
Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day though, with about 4 inches of snow on the ground.

Re: OT: Weather Check!!
16 degrees here right now. High projected to be 35 today and sunny. No snow at all - haven't see any (here) for a few years. May sound balmy to a lot of other folks, but in South Carolina, 16 degrees is sub-artic! Only supposed to be 10 degrees tomorrow morning. Lots of older homes (and some newer ones) lack insulation in any appreciable way. Windows might as well be open holes too. We're toasty in my house, but I worry about some of those less well off - here and elsewhere.

Howdy,
Just took the dog out, -32... Central MN, about 100mi north of Minneapolis... No wind, so it doesn't feel that bad. The door closer on the porch door is almost solid, though!

Thermometer maxed out at -30 this morning. That's as low as it goes. Horses were all frosty and the water lines aren't froze to the horse tank, so life is good.
A little brisk though.

0 here when I got up. Hopefully it will warm some. I've been to Sudbury, met some nice folks up there.

38 degree's ABOVE ZERO in North Pole, Alaska.
Only drawback is that there is a slight drizzel and my meat is starting to thaw.
I am sure that will be rectified in a few days but this is mighty nice after weeks of minus 40-50!

Nine below zero, says the One-eyed Demon. looking outside, I'd say maybe 7 feet of snow. Well, it seems like it, anyway.
Once it gets below forty, it might as well be forty below.

-2° at 9:17am in Springfield. We have a warming trend ...
Pepe Ray,
Run an electric cord out to your car and put a lamp under the hood with a regular 60W incandescent bulb in it. Put it as close to the battery as you can without touching it. The bulb will warm up the battery, and the under hood area. Might take a while, but it works.

Hope this makes ya feel better (Don't look at the location or it will do the opposite)
Last few days it's been in the high 80s, getting back to normal now,
it will be in the mid 70s this weekend.

20º when I got up this morning. Supposed to go down over the weekend. Heck, I like it!!!!! Two weeks ago it was -10º for about 5-days.
Re: OT: Weather Check!!
Kinda chilly down this way, too. Today's high is expected to only reach 66º, so a heavy T-shirt will be needed. Lots better than the 40s and 50s it has been of late.

My cats out in the barn were glad to see me this morning when I put a few sticks of wood in the stove to warm up their area out there. Glad I don't work out in this freezing cold right now.

England checking in,
It's been around 40f here today.
There is talk of it cooling down after gales tommorow.
Next week looks like being just above freezing but with winds blowing cold rains and some snow in, nice (not).
My well seasoned oak is dwindling away, the recent cold we have had, you know, like the winters we use to have
has meant keeping the stove ticking over all night in the kitchen.
Good luck for you snow bounders.
Nath.

Re: OT: Weather Check!!
Pepe...while it is good to have a little heat to boost the cranking power of a cold battery, the real "magic" is warm oil.
If I could only have ONE heater on my rig, it would be a silicone oil pan heater. At twenty below and colder, oil is the viscosity of slightly warm tar. At temps below minus 40 it is worse yet and at minus sixty/seventy you cannot dig it out with a spoon! Hard to get the motor to crank no matter how hot the battery is, and when it does start the top end damage happens quick.
Back in the days B.E. (before electricity) we would use a couple lengths of stovepipe with a 90 degree elbow, and put a propane weed burner in the end, creating a forced air heat blaster to thaw the planes, pickups, and snowmachines.
the oldtimers used to drain the oil at night and set it near the woodstove to keep it flowing. Weedburner is easier and only takes about 15 minutes. Point the elbow right up at the oilpan and watch it so you don't catch things on fire
Hope that helps some.

24 today's high (Friday) and 18 was yesterdays.
Frankly I like it this cold. Heck it wasn't bad the last two mornings at about 10. Keeps a lot of folks inside and that helps me in my work. A cold day is a peaceful day.

-17F last night here in Central Maine. It's -2 now.
Today was a beautiful day - I went out for a walk twice at work. No wind,
bright sun and temps of +4F.
Clayton Lake was -44F this AM, and up north plenty of places were -35F or so.
Cold until Sunday is forecast, then snow.

BenT needs a new thermometer, his only goes to -30F. Hope he didn't bend the needle on it when it bottomed out
Woke up this morning kinda like Ben did, turned on the switch and had 1000W heater kick on in the cooling(oxymoron today) system of the car and a 500W oil heater. Made a fresh pot of hot coffee, filled my cup, and carried it outsdie to start the car and let her warm up. Made the mistake of setting the cup down on the hood of my old pick up parked next to my car, cause in the ten-fifteen minutes it took to start the car my coffee froze solid in the cup! Get'n old sucks, 'cause back in '80 when the temp dropped to -56F (w/o wind chill) and the propane froze in the tanks, it didn't feel as cold as it did today. Heck not too long ago I can remember 17 straight days that the thermometer never went above 0F for a high and after only a week of these temps as we have today has sunk straight through to my bones.
