My First coyote......

Post by afish4570 »

Shot my first coyote while deer hunting. I was on watch when a driver hollered and shot her going up a ravine after being creased from the drivers shot. She was bout 90 to 100 yrds. away. My SS Ruger 4570 with a hot loaded 300 gr. JHP chronoed at 2330 fps. stopped her deer eating career...afish4570 :D :D :D :D

Good job! :D In addition to her deer eating career, you can add dog killing career, cat killing career(that ones OK :D ), aggravation to ranchers, farmers, and other things those nasty animals are noted for. I bet that baby really did a sommersault when that 300 grainer whacked it!

BTW---Lets see some pics.----------Sixgun

The driver who shot first was shooting into the ravine a bout to take his 2nd shoot when he saw her in his scope doing a complete flip. I have the pictures but will have to have my son help me get it from the camera to the site......not terrific with computers. But I took typing 100 yrs. ago in hi school.....   afishw4570

Back when Indiana was still a 'shotgun' state for deer, I knew several people who nailed bird-eating feral cats with 12-gauge slugs, some of the plain 'rifled' variety, and some of the 1800 fps 'saboted pistol bullet' variety. The funny part was that three of those people were veterinarians - who theoretically treat those cute little kitties for various ailments. I think they all felt that an instantaneous and humane end to a ground-nesting-bird-eating cat was not a bad thing. I'm presuming a 1800 fps 265 grain .452 bullet would meet the definition of "instantaneous and humane."

A friend of mine with a .416 Rigby commented that it would both kill, AND 'field dress' a feral cat, if so desired...

Good job!
Can't wait for the pics.
That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error.

Outstanding. Now you need to start hunting them on purpose. Much more fun then deer hunting. :)

Yotes around here can get rough on fawns every now and then. But we don't get snow so they are not much of a danger to deer in general. Funny how it can be different in other areas. But very understandable. Now they do kill our cats and probably our small dogs if they could. Heck on rabbits and the like too. Now I got to trying to shoot one with young ones once, and they were way out there and I couldn't get steady from a tripod with no rest, and ended up watching, waiting on them to come closer and found it so funny to watch them hunting mice I just let em live that day. Very entertaining.

I whopped one a while back with my 50 beowulf. DRT.

Congrats and good job!

Well done there, if they are anything like fox they are a worthy hunt.

Good shooting.

Well unfortunatly being a recruiter dont leave much time to hunt :( I am still supprised I found the time to get the rifle painted. Hopefully the new year will bring more time and I can put some dogs down for a dirt nap.

Nath in my experience they are much more wary then fox. If they sence something wrong they will hang up at long range and try and figure out what the deal is. Other times they will about jump in your lap coming to a call.

Well done on that first coyote. You should try calling some now. Be careful though, you may have caught the "fever". If you have been infected, be prepared to start spending silly amounts of money on calls and such. There's no end to the gadgetry involved.

Another Yote Killer that uses a 45-70. It does a number on them. I got this one while deer hunting last year in SC. I heard him in the woods and got out of my stand and went looking for him. I remember the awe sh## look on his face when he spotted me. Too late. Image
