I recently had a heck of a time getting a 10/22 to group good, so I got rid of it and ordered a Henry. Today it came in BUT after seeing it a guy a work asked me to order him one to give as a Christmas gift for his son. I let him have it for my cost. Back to square one with no squirrel rifle set-up I opened the safe and paired a BL-22 with a spare Tasco 3X9X32. I laser bore sighted it at 35 yards (the range that the red dot was still visible). I then put the target up at the same 35 yard range. The first shot hit 7 O'Clock. I adjusted for 1/2 inch right and 1/2 inch higher. The next 5 shots were in the 1 inch round bullseye I drew on a 3X5 index card. 2 shot even cut the same hole. This was shooting off sticks with the front of the forend supported. Might do even better off a real solid rest! So with a little adjustment and 6 shots I ended up with a very viable squirrel rifle. If I had just done this in the first place I would have saved the headache of hundreds of shots and adjustments with the 10/22! Lesson learned!
Although I really like my 10/22s the very first gun I ever purchased with my own money (14yrs old) was a BL-22 and I have put everything down the barrel and hunted squirrels with it scoped and not. God willing I will never part with it. Glad you dug it out.
Hey 86er,
With the stock originally configured for iron sights, how well does your eye line up with the scope?

The eye alignment is just fine. I may not have a rock hard cheek weld on the stock but my face is in full contact and I can see through it fine. The mounts are LOW and the scope is only 32mm.
