New levergun

Post by reddnek »

I wandered into a pawn shop that I dont frequent much( big operation, 3 locations in the area and not known for deals) Much to my suprise I spotted a model 99 Savage. When I finally got someone to wait on me I found it was a 300 Savage and the price was $295. Wood needs refinishing and the blue is a little thin, but the bore is decent and the action is tight.I've been looking for one of these for a long timeI'll post pics when I figure out how

$295 for any Savage 99 is a steal around here. Congratulations!

BTW, if anyone here doesn't think the .300 Savage is a stone cold killer of deer, see Buffboy's posts about his wife and her .300 Savage. They are going to be eating very well this winter.

I missed a chance on a 308 years ago
I'm with Big H, every time I look at 300S data I just keep nodding in agreement. Kinder between 30/30 and 308 but more towards 308, got to be sweet.

I picked up a $300 99 in 300 savage. It was well used the only problem was that it wasn't factory tapped and the rear tap job wasn't in line with the front. So I traded it back to the same store when they got clean 99 in. But what I know now is that Luepold makes a one piece base that is windage adjustable that only uses the front rear base hole. So that would have fixed that problem . Alot of the 99 weren't factory tapped, so keep that in mind.

Not sure if this one's factory tapped or not but it carries a 4X Tasco which will be repaced by a Weaver K4 at some point
