OT-Big Buck Down....

Post by CEMENTHEAD »

:D I'm beat. I just got out of the woods from dragging a big buck with my brother. My bother and I love to hunt in the rain during November. The rut is in full swing here in New England so we were out this morning when everbody else was home, warm and dry. My brother got this 8 pointer that dressed 195 lbs. He shot him in his bed while he was waiting on a doe to come into heat. Me? Didn't see a whisker all morning in the swamp....oh well. that's why it's called hunting.

In Oregon you usually get some opportunity in the rain during hunting season. I found that the rain sure hides your noises. Wearing rain gear isn't all that bad once you get going. You guys had a good day of it with that nice buck.

:D Like I was saying before we love to hunt in the rain. It keeps your noise and scent down really well. I use wool clothing, but my brother has got me looking at some of the new synthetic clothing. I love my Woolrich and Columbia wool clothes though. My brother does use the Remington 700 .50 caliber muzzleloader, it was a X-mas gift from me 6 years ago. He uses a 385 grain Hornady Great Plains Conical, a T/C bore button, 2 - 50 grain pyrodex pellets, and Winchester 209 primers. It ALWAYS goes bang in the rain. He shot him at about 65 yards in his bed. At the shot he just jumped up and flipped twice down the hill. About 6 yards total. The shot hit the last rib on the right side going in, destroyed the liver, the left lung and the left shoulder, exiting the left shoulder about midway up. Quickest put down he said he's ever experienced. Maybe I should've kept that one for myself.... Thanks for all the great comments, My brother and I appreciate them. Thanks again, Tom
