Sounds like good advice. Can't say I would choose their recommendations on food for myself!!!

Re: State of Vermont warns of pandemic
We have enough food for a couple of months of "normal" eating... and enough rations for several... all in a couple of air/watertight plastic totes.
Start with "the mormon 4" - Bulk Whole Wheat (or Corn or Rice), Powdered Milk, Honey & Salt. Then build menus from there using canned and dried foods.

The freeze dried meats are good to, the burger & pork chops are quite tasty when cooked up.
Re: OT - State of Vermont warns of pandemic
Well, two years ago, at my EMS graduation ceremony we had the oportunity to hear the head of the state EMS agency speak, and along with giving us praise for the work we were about to do, he also handed us a stern warning that "it isn't a question of IF, it's when" the flu pandemic will strike and he went on to describe an almost complete breakdown of public services, (ours included,) shipping, freight, law enforcement, fire services, and add it up.
He told us to keep enough canned and dried goods on hand in case the store shelves were empty, and to be very watchful for the deadly flu. It happened in 1918, and will happen again.
Glad to see this advice still getting around while the sheeple are transfixed with another bogus election puppet show.

I work in the healthcare field. That doesn't make me an expert on anything in particular, but I've done a little research on this topic in the last few months. IMO, a two week supply of food (and other necessities, meds, etc....) isn't enough! Two weeks MIGHT get you through the initial outbreak, (doubtful) but in the aftermath of a disrupted supply line, two to three months is a more realistic minimal timeframe. And, don't forget your own personal water supply while you are making preparations. When it hits, we're going to be pretty much on our own. Self-sufficiency is the key to survival in this scenario, IMHO.

Buy this book:
When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need to Survive When Disaster Strikes

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/bookse ... y%2DLundin
http://www.amazon.com/When-All-Hell-Bre ... 843&sr=1-1
Tycer turned me on to Cody's work. It's 100% no-bs practical info that is targeted mostly at clueless suburbanites who have nowhere to bug-out to.
Some of the illustrations are a bit dippy, but the point is made.
Even tells you the best way to cook Rat.

Re: OT - State of Vermont warns of pandemic
Ummmm, OK so we stock up on foods, meds, and other necessities like cat food so we can stay home for 2 weeks to two months.
All fine and dandy, but if we have to stay home who's gonna pay the rent, or the mortgage, or the utilities or other bills?
I understand one should be prepared, but many of us are living from paycheck to paycheck and don't have enough to put back 2+ months of foods and money.
If such a thing happens I'd rather be out in the boonies for 2 months. The cities will turn into a blood bath.

Putting back 2 months of food for 2 adults costs very little... especially if you start with buying 50lb of rice and buy canned goods at Aldi...
As for the bloodbath - that's what your guns are for.

The folks in the Socialist Republik of Vermont need not worry. Our legislature is ready and eager to distribute the wealth, land, money and anything else they can steal from working and retired Vermonters.

Tell me jlchucker, how do you come about being an expert on our fine state? Most of the BS that is written and talked about in regards to Vermont is brought on by all the flatlanders that have visited and moved in here over the past 30 years or so. It's not a bad place, but could be much improved if most of the city folk that have come up here with their liberal ideas
would move back to the cities. Last time I checked, we are one of the few, if only, states where we can carry our guns where, when and how we choose anytime and most anyplace. One thing for sure, if you don't like Vt. , you're more than
welcome to stay where you are.

Gihon, I was born and raised in Vermont as were my parents before me. I still live here. And except for time in the Army and a couple of years in the flatlands working for Winchester I've lived here all of my life---Have you? Brattleboro and Chittenden county don't qualify as "Vermont" any more. Vermont is not the place it was--nothing like it, for the reasons about liberals that you state. Glad you think I'm "more than welcome to stay" because I don't think you're man enough to try and run me out. I'll move to some place in the US, without your help, hopefully in the spring when my house sells.

Re: OT - State of Vermont warns of pandemic
More fear mongering.
I'm not saying it can't happen, but there really isn't much we can do about it one way or the other. I think I'm getting a little fed up with all the things we're supposed to be afraid of. Fear the terrorists, fear the flu, fear asteroids, fear the Caldera erupting. We're all going to die at some point. Why not enjoy the time we have instead of perpetually freaking about the innumerable ways it might end?

Now that there was a good post. Course a bag of rice and a brick of 22's are never a bad idea either.Jason_W wrote:More fear mongering.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

IMO, a bag of food and a box of bullets is far better and wiser preparation than "don't worry, be happy."
I guess we can let those who believe that they are just going to die anyway go ahead and gloat as they do.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.
