Checking out Paco's Acc'rzr

Post by slabsides »

I've been curious about Kelly's Acc'rzr for quite some time. A week or so ago, I re-read the 'redesign' post in the Stickies, and decided to order a unit for .202" thru .205". It arrived today, and I'm very pleased with it on short acquaintance!
For those who may be considering the purchase of one of these tools, (hereinafter, "the Tool"!} I'd say go ahead. For the cost of a few bricks of cheap cartridges, you will receive a very well machined Tool that can be displayed proudly beside any brand of 'big-name' reloading tools made. Paco turns these out one at a time, by hand, I understand. They are on the money, dimensionally, and in the brief trials I've made of the Tool, it works as advertised. I have a Ruger Single Six convertible that has been hit or miss accurate with all but one brand/type of ammo. This afternoon for my first trial of the Tool, I processed a handful of the cheapest lead bulk ammo I have on hand: Federal Lightning solids. I put the deep hollowpoint on them. Two, fired into a dry 2x6, romped through leaving BIG exit holes. Six fired on paper, from a casual forearm rest, free handed, as one would shoot in the field using a tree or fencepost as support, put the first three bullets into a single 3/8" hole at 15 yards. I couldn't stand prosperity after that, and blew the last two out a whole inch. These Federals never shot so well in the Ruger before, and I was very pleased. With 11 or 12 rimfires in my locker, (but who's counting?) and four different sizes to test, I figure I'm good for the next year or two, without fear of boredom. Thanks, Paco, this is gonna be fun!

I've got three different tools including the one you have, and I think the one you are refering to is the Phase IV. I just made a huge batch of ammo using first the "wadcutter" tool followed by the "hollowpoint" tool. The original ammo was Federal bulk pack 36 gr hollow points. The results are bullets with a wide metplat and huge crater of a hollow point. They are more accurate than the factory loads.

Yep, Phase IV is what I have. For the test of the Federals, I used the .203" tool
in my Ruger SSS. Seems to fit the bore better. I've also been fooling with some
hollowpoints and the cup pointer tool, which I have high hopes for as a vermin
load. Talk about a gaping hole in the head!
I think I'll have to consider picking up a tool for the .22 short (I gather from
Paco's comments that the short needs a special one.) I like to plink in the
backyard of my semi-rural digs with a long barrelled Winchester 72 and shorts.
Not much noise, so even the sleeping dogs don't wake up and bark.
