Old photo of my Grandfather and leverguns.

Post by 2ndovc »

This photo was taken in the late '20s while my Grandfather was on the Border Patrol in AZ.
He's on the right with the Savage 99.
His partner is on the left packin' the Winchester. His name was George Parker.

The lower photo was taken many years later on a fishing trip to one of the Lake Erie
islands.

I love these photos. Days gone by :D

I believe so. My Dad has a letter from Col. Askins that he sent to my Grandfather. I'll see if I can find it.

My Grandfather's name was Maurice Burge but he always went by the name Harry. My Grandmother was
the only one that called him Maurice.

Most of the stories of Grandpa and George have been told to me through my Dad and
his brothers. But Grandpa had nothing but respect and admiration for George. I have another
photo of George arond here and have a a large Belgian top break revolver that he'd given to my
my Grandfather.
I also have a 7mm bullet that Grandpa picked up after a shoot out in one of those border towns.
It had passed through one of the locals and was lying in the dirt street.

I'd love to know more about Geroge and my Grandfather during those days on the Border Patrol.
I know he packed a S&W 1917 .45ACP during his time there. The rifle he purchased on his own. Don't
know the caliber. He didn't keep that one. The revolver was stolen from my uncle's home.
Fortunately my Dad had most of his guns whitch i now have. His favorite was a Winchester Model 70 in 250-3000.

Thanks for sharing with us! Border Patrol in the 20's? Bet your grandfather didn't have to put with the PC BS inflicted on the
agents now. Maurice - pardon me- Harry I'll bet was one tough hombre.
