Squirrel Rifle '08

Post by stinkycat »

Finally got the squirrel rifle for 2008 finished. Each year I try to put together something for squirrel season. This is an L prefix 1954 39A, the year I was born. I put a green mountain octagon barrel, cut it with a target chamber, stocks are from Bastone walnut.

love that rifle. good luck during the upcoming season. I can relate a bit, though I don't build or refinish rifles, the new small game season always gets me thinking about the perfect small game rifle. yours looks pretty close to perfect!!! well done

That is without a doubt the prettiest Marlin 39 I've seen. I love that slim forearm and the wood is gorgeous.

And you even got the right kind of a sight on it  ! Two thumbs up ^^ .

That's lovely.

Looks like something right out of the 19th century.

(I know folks here will interpret that as the compliment it was intended as! :) )

No stain on the wood, for finish I used permalyn, both sealer and finish. For those who asked I wish I could do work for others but for right now health problems prevent it.

Too bad Marlin isn't monitoring this forum. They could have a great idea to generate some "nostalgic" sales, but for the safety they'd put on it.

That is fantastic work. You're a true craftsman.
