Six months ago I brought home a Black Lab (love Labs!)
from a rescue shelter.
Millie can be a stinker (escape artist) but she's a great dog!

Thanks - she really is the sweetest dog I've ever known - and, we showed Mastiffs for more than two decades. Our last one got dog equivalent of ALS and carrying a 250# dog out for breaks can't be done - by me, anyway. A friend's daughter helped at the Humane Society said they had a Mastiff mix puppy - I went out and saw her - I've more Mastiff genes than she - but - she was irresistible. She was an anomalous drop-off at night and, once we nursed her back to health - found we had our hands full - she's so quick and smart - and demanding we love her.

Our theory is our Mastiff ghosts sent her to remind us that 200# dogs can come in a 70# body - and can cure any lonesomeness for past dogs. Evidently the previous owners found they were in over their heads and she was probably abused when they tried to train her - our long experience paid off and we're in charge about 95% of the time and gaining.
With some reservations, I tried the electronic collar used for field training and found it to be th most effective and most humane method - she gets the message and suffers no real injury - just enough jolt to remind her what "NO" really means.

We decided she's our "Boxerrier" - Boxer body and Terrier personality and mind.

Good question - only time I've been without was in med school and surgery training - even WW II had none but got one during Korean War service.

In fact, my first dog picked me - she was owned by a rancher some 2 miles out of town but she walked those 2 miles, followed me around all day, and went home. Rancher gave up and made her a gift to me -

She is pretty hardy but --- hmmm?

This may test just how much.

We met some years ago but lost track of each other for quite some time until I finally tracked her down again. She rescued this dog from a bad owner. Basically she saw him abusing it and just took it from him. And that was that!

I knew the guy and she did the right thing.

Then she came across this poor fellow who had apparently lost his shirt in a Casino in Las Vegas. I am sure she was just trying to console him. What a good hearted soul.

Hope I am not going to get into too much hot water here.

Guess you will know what happened if this disappears.

Oh my; I grew up POOR (annual family income around $3,000 or so) - no Lugers for me...!

I could afford a used Ruger Mk-I though...

The 10/22 was a gift for my 10th birthday or so.
The guy on the left had a semiauto shotgun of make I don't remember.
The next guy had a lever-action I guess was a genuine Winchester 30-30, and normally had a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt, but this may have been before that, so I'm not sure. He may have had a cap-and-ball pistol though at that time. The older guy had a breakopen shotgun for the picture, but pretty much did everything else with a Ruger M-77 in 243 Winchester. Shortly after this picture I got a Ruger Super Blackhawk and a Ruger M-77 in 6mm Remington.

The older guy truly lived 'off the land' and only went into town three or four times a year, to buy flour, salt, and female affection. He reloaded with a Lee 'mallet tool' type loader, and shot only when he needed to eat, but he ate well.

Sure looks like the JM Browning design, maybe a Remington 11 or the Winchester copy that was trying to get around Browning's patents. Could anyone in your crowd back then swing an A5?

I have a Rem. 11, minus the buttstock, it's a nice design and to this day the Remington versions seem vastly under priced.
