identifying scope mounts on a side lever

Post by Streetstar »

Recently traded into a side lever - a perfectly fine Weatherby Vanguard in .300 WBY - but while pondering optics -- the mounts it currently has are curious to me and i am not familiar with this system - although they cant be old as the rifle itself is likely not more than 20 years old

Any ideas what this is and if i should be sourcing rings for these mounts rather than tossing them and going with a more traditional Weaver type mount? I may not know the terminology of what i am looking for but i have been scouring both Burris and LEupold stuff online trying to find something that looks compatible and i may be temporarily stumped

Looks like Redfield mortise bases. However those bases had one mortise for the front ring and set screws held the rear ring in place.

I've seen those bases with that contour/lightening cut a long the profile but darned if I can tell you the maker!

Take a look at Leupold Dual Dovetail bases and see if that looks like them. Weatherby Vanguard takes Remington 700 bases, not Mark IV bases.

Looks like they’ve got two of the same base on to bring the rings closer together.

JRD, I believe you're exactly right. They're good-looking bases at that.

Leupold Dual dovetail for sure. Readily available rings. Rock solid system

Thanks guys ! I figured id get an answer here -- i/ll try to get the proper rings rather than throw it out in favor of a generic pic rail
