Nice 50 Beowulf (dunno if it is a Pistol or a SBR…)

This woman shows off her new Beowulf (and some big melons)…

Bear Creek Arms makes uppers in the “12.7x42RB” with the side-charging option that I do like better than the standard rear charging handles on ARs. The side charging handles seem more robust, and intuitive (I grew up shooting Ruger 10/22s, M1As and Mini-14s).

The original AR design with the charging handle up inside the carry handle was odd (and let too much gas and heat up that way), and perhaps the rear design was a simple modification to get around that, while still avoiding having a reciprocating thumb buster on the right side, but I still like right (or left) charging better than rear.

I guess while I’m second-guessing Mr Stoner, I’d also say I like having the spring and bigger in the forend area, but that’s a whole ‘ other topic… :D

I have that upper and shoot it with a naked buffer tube and no tank appendage. it's useful to remember that it's a pistol caliber to begin with, and the recoil is reasonable and painless with the buffer tube indexed on the cheek, kinda like a flat bow hold. sometimes i use a short sling and push against that, but that's not necessary.

a 350 gr XTP at around 1775 fps redefines pistol, yeah?

p.s. I can hit really small melons with it . . . ;)

Yeah, I have the 16" one, and it came with a plain muzzle. I'm not a real recoil-stud, but it wasn't unpleasant.

There are guns you don't feel ANY recoil with, guns you NOTICE but aren't a bother, ones that are potentially DISTRACTING but not unpleasant, and ones that you brace for because they are UNPLEASANT. Ruger 10/23, 357 Mag 18" levergun, 30-06 in a 1903 Springfield, and a 12 gauge break open slug gun. Maybe a 460 Weatherby past that as a 'MORE unpleasant' category, but I've never shot one.

I'd say the brake-less Beowulf was in the 'distracting' category.

I added the brake just to protect the muzzle and cuz it looks cool....but I really don't notice a difference in perceived recoil.

I just got the Bear Creek 11 inch version, with a plain flash suppressor, and fired it off my SBR lower I use for 300 Blackout; it was still in the same category to me, though I could feel more recoil for sure.

I didn't change the buffer, either, though I think eventually I'll want to experiment with buffer springs and weights (I have a set of adjustable ones), just to find the best function and least wear-and-tear setup.
