Here rests in honored glory, a soldier known but to GOD
A bondservant of our Lord, Christ Jesus
Re: Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier
That prompts a nice memory...
My high school concert band did an exchange program with a concert band from the D.C. area. They visited all the sites in/around Boston when they came up north, and we visited the sites in/around D.C. when we traveled south. One of the stops on the bus tour was Arlington National Cemetery.
One can only imagine what 2 busloads of teenagers felt about that planned excursion when it was announced.
Boy -- were we wrong..................
Despite the drizmal conditions that day with a dismal, drizzling rain coming down, we were all very moved by the visit. Especially by the Tomb Of The Unknown. The rain hid our tears -- I remember that distinctly.
And you could have heard a pin drop on both buses for the ride back to the hotel. Instead of all the singing, joking and small talk that was ongoing for all the other bus rides, we rode back in silence for a full hour plus. And I must say, every patriotic song we played after that visit was performed with a renewed vigor and quest for perfection in honor of the fallen.

The honor guard mans their post 24 - 7 - 365. Even a hurricane couldn't drive them indoors. It's a moving experience for sure and one we all can be proud of.
I've been there a few times and each is time it's the same feeling; the tomb is held in reverence.

Certainly to take nothing away from Arlington or any of the other national cemeteries , but a couple years before Covid I was in Manila and decided to visit the WWII American Filipino cemetary . Something about walking the circle state by state seeing and reading names on the walls moved me quite a bit .
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

Was that spontaneous, or due to a good 'tour guide' or instructor explaining the situation those 'unknown soldiers' faced...???Old No7 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 9:18 am That prompts a nice memory...
